Hi,
I recently bought a JVC HR-S7611 for digitalizing my old stuff. The picture quality is definatly better than on the VHS I had borrowed.
The problem is that there are black shadows next to bright stuff in the video. Most notably with credits or subtitles. Up till now I tried different cables (scart, scart with svideo, svideo) but these areas are always there. The picture modes (auto, edit, soft, sharp) and turning on/off the TBC didn't help either. They weren't present on the VHS. At first I thought it's because of the better hardware that it's actually showing stuff that is present there but it's showing up on bought tapes as well as my own taped tv stuff. Then I thought it might be that this is below black level only visible on never screens but it's also present on the old crt. I tried to set levels with VirtualDub and Avisynth which helped blacken them out but I lose detail or get more noise if brighten up the picture again. So I guess something is broken with the hardware but I have no idea what it could be.
I uploaded a small clip with the problem. It looks like the small shadow that is usually added to text is drawn out way to the right. Sometimes almost as far as the right side.
In the picture you can see the shadows beneath the letters but also some stars have them. The shadows are not always as clean as in the Star Wars example.

Here's one from Star Trek. The black goes till the right border. Also notice the light and the buttons on the left side.

Here is another one from the Star Wars clip with a black area next to the republic ship.
