i think i posted about this some time ago but now there seems to be some semi-official confirmation that Haswell-E will be 8-core (real 8 core, not AMD "8" core) and support ddr-4, both first for the desktop:

considering intel prices it's top of the line "E" edition processors at anywhere between $500 and $1000, up until now i haven't really considered the "E" edition cpu's particularly good deals.

but, if intel really released an 8 core 16 thread Haswell based beast that supports ddr-4 for $1000, you figure $200-$300 for the motherboard, maybe the same for 16gigs of ddr4, reuse my current case, hdd, power supply and OS, $1600 for that much performance?

i don't know, i may just be able to talk myself into it?

what about you guys? if intel released a lower end 8 core, say in the $500 range, would you consider spending that much cash on such a setup?
