I'm trying to capture a video source, a Panasonic DVD player. I'm doing it through my Sony Handy Cam TRV480. I run a firewire cable from the 480 to a firewire port on my PC Win7. An RCA jack runs from the player to the camera. When I turn on the player a 480, I get no boing sound from the speakers. I verified that I can hear the speakers by running an audio file, and by pulling out a USB device. The latter goes boing. When I use File->Capture Video, I get a dialog that says there is "Please connect a device". I'm aware of the Preferences under Capture Video. Enable DV control is unchecked. If I check it, still a device in not detected.
If I try with a 8 mm tape instead of the player, I do not get connected.
I've tried different orders of turning on with Vegas, camera and player. Perhaps a camera setting is mis-set? Nothing works. No boings or device detected.
Comments?
Maybe trying it on Windows Movie Maker might be fruitful. I've never used it.
