hi again, after posting up a short thread about converting 1080/50p m2ts cam files to 1080/50p and 720/50p mp4, i was advised by Jagabo to continue filming in 1080/50 for archiving (which is what i do anyway) and then to retain the 50fps playback quality, just convert the source files to 720/50p mp4 for everyday playback.

i cant find any hdd based media player that can support 1080/50p playback properly without shimmering, unless i use a pc based media player that will do it, and so far 720/50p mp4 at 8Mbps is what i am converting to and i like it, and even my 50" samsung plasma (1366x768) plays the 50fps mp4 directly via its built in media player (via usb)

now, my usual bunch of conversion tools consist of Avidemux, Handbrake, XMedia Recode and tsMuxer (for file editing and conversions)

ok, so after Jagabo suggested 1080i/25 or 720p/50 for bluray output (should i ever need to do that) i tried using XMedia Recode, Avidemux, tsMuxer, and solveigmm and TSSniper and find them to be not very frame accurate with file cutting (one of them is way out) and i cant find any that will cut with decent frame accuracy AND convert the edited 1080/50p m2ts down to 720/50p m2ts or mp4.

i started looking for a tool that would edit (cut/trim/join) my m2ts source files, and then output back to 1080/50p m2ts without conversion, plus output the edited m2ts down to 720p/50 m2ts and then mp4.

i started googling, and recall someone mention ViderRedo TVSuite H.264 in a thread here in this forum, so i downloaded a trial with a key, and have started playing about with it, and so far, this thing seems to do exactly what i want, all inside the same program.

its profile setup is a bit crazy to sort out to start with, but you get used to it, and i tested some files for cutting accuracy, and although i dont think it is perfect, its a lot better than the other free open source Apps i have tried.

what im curious to know is what encoding engine is running inside this program for conversions to say mp4 and mkv because i cant seem to find out much about it.

the edited 1080/50p m2ts files output to 720/50p m2ts seem to be pretty dam good, same as the mp4 output as well.

i wish the creators would change the horrible candy bar look to the GUI, and add a nice chime when the conversions are done, it really annoys me how this tool looks like a child designed it, something more like Handbrake or XMedia Recode might be a much nicer GUI for what seems to be a dam decent (paid for) tool for video conversion.

before i decide to buy a license, has anyone got any thoughts on this tool, and any advice for me about the way i should use it with editing 1080/50p m2ts files and converting back to 1080/50p m2ts + 720/50p m2ts and mp4.

cheers everyone, and apologies for the rant :)
