title missing ~30 secs, won't rip past it

A title I'm most interested in is missing about 30 seconds using VLC and the DVD. As most of my DVD rips, I do it using Handbrake. This title failed so I tried dumping it on HDD using DVDfab > DVD Copy > Customize, I selected the track in question. There was soon error so, as with erroneous files, I selection Ignore All ; it finished like normal so I used Handbrake on that dump directory trying to make the target (compressed) file. All seemed well so far but the length was ~1/3 of the DVD one. I then played the DVD trying to get as close to the time of the previous file which got pretty close, then VLC stopped. Then getting close to the time I skipped 1 min and it played so I backtracked until it stopped again ; calculating the unreadable gap.

Is there a program that would seek longer than DVDfab obviously don't go? Or is there a way to manually set the beginning of a rip, so I'd then join the 2 parts?
