Command Line instruction for non-YouTube sites

Hi. When using youtube-dl on YouTube, all available options are numbered so you could, for example, ask to download:
youtube-dl -f 137+251 "https://www.youtube.com/watch etc etc"

It's possible to use youtube-dl with the BBC iPlayer but the available streams have no numbers. See the attached pic. If I didn't want to download the highest quality (which would be youtube-dl -f best "https://www.youtube.com/watch etc etc") how would I instruct it? Thank you.

Issues With Capturing From Mini DV Camcorder

Hello everyone! I installed a StarTech 2 Port PCI Express 1394a FireWire Card in my computer a few months ago. The driver shows up in the Device Manager, but the programs I've tried (WinDV, Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, Sony Vegas Pro 13) and it doesn't show up in the capture windows! Is there something I could do to be able to capture from my camcorder?

My DV Camcorder is a JVC GR-D870U model.

PAL speedup question

I have an ISO file, apparently from a retail DVD, containing some "Married... with Children" episodes at a 25 fps frame rate. When I ripped them to MPEG2 I expected to find them suffering but PAL speedup, but the running times were correct, the actors' voices were all at the correct pitch, and it didn't seem sped up in any other way. Ordinarily when I come across a 25 fps video that originated on American TV I'll make a 23.97 fps viewing copy that conforms to NTSC specs, because the helium voice effect is too annoying otherwise.

My question is, shouldn't there be PAL speedup on a 29.97 fps NTSC video converted to 25 fps PAL? Why isn't it present here?

Easy subtitle creation

Hi,

please help me to find a very easy way to crate subtitles. I used Subtitle workshop where I could open video and load srt subtitle, where every line started and ended at the very same moment. But I got somehow broken and I can't make it work anymore.

I'm looking for a tool that would allow me transform txt lines to srt lines, play video and only click start - end fro individual lines to time them. Is this somehow possible with Aegisub? I know I can set start and end to the current line when playing video which works great but I can't skip to the next one as the video skips as well.

Any help appreciated. Thanks a lot!!

Youtube Disabled - The Chrome Web Store does not allow Downloading

Hello, dear all.

Today, when I went to Youtube to visit some music videos and try to download them using some Chrome addons, I got the message below:

Quote:

Download of YouTube video disabled!
The Chrome Web Store (i.e. Google) does not allow extensions to download videos from YouTube. Therefore we removed this functionality for the Chrome Web Store.

We hope for your understanding. Please do not rate us bad for this reason!

Important: If you still want to download videos from YouTube, please use the following software. Since it’s not from the Chrome Web Store, this is independent :-)

Do you notice similar problems?

They suggest to use their program for that:

---> https://www.videodownloaderultimate.com/en/?cid=chrome ( non-freeware )

Firefox and other web browsers can work or their addons were broken too?

Now, for that situation, which programs do you point to use for downloading Youtube videos?

Best regards.

How to batch convert subtitles files to uppercase?

Hi.

I have a bunch of srt files that I need to have all in uppercase. I use Subtitle Edit to convert one file at a time but it would be so much faster to batch convert all of them.
I'm pretty bad at the command line thing, I'm not sure how it works, but is there a way to batch convert my files?

Thank you :)

HDR10+ Technologies Announces Licensing and Certification Program -AVSForum

Or why I'm not planning to buy a HDR TV until it's all settled. Just knock wood that my beloved plasma holds out that long! :o

"Got that new 4K UHD release? Well, we now have the HDR10+/Dolby Vision version available! Oh, your new 4K UHD set doesn't support HDR10+/Dolby Vision? Well, we have a new line of sets that do! BTW, you'll need this new player too!"

HDR10+ Technologies Announces Licensing and Certification Program

by Scott Wilkinson on June 22, 2018

"Last year, 20th Century Fox, Panasonic, and Samsung founded a trade organization that became HDR10+ Technologies to promote the HDR10+ high dynamic-range format. Yesterday, the organization announced the start of its licensing and certification program for products that implement HDR10+.

Like Dolby Vision, HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata to define the characteristics of an HDR video signal. Being dynamic, the metadata can change for each scene or even each frame. By contrast, “regular” HDR10 uses static metadata, which define the HDR characteristics only once for the entire program (movie, TV episode, etc.). Many viewers agree that dynamic metadata provide a better image, allowing each scene to be optimized for a given display.

HDR10+ is a royalty-free, open standard, just like HDR10, on which it is based. By contrast, Dolby Vision is a proprietary standard, and Dolby charges a royalty for implementing it.

Dolby Vision has a distinct advantage: It is already well-established in the marketplace. Many TVs, UHD Blu-ray players, and even some streaming boxes support Dolby Vision, and many UHD Blu-ray discs and streaming providers offer content encoded in Dolby Vision.

Among the few holdouts that have not jumped on the Dolby Vision bandwagon are Panasonic and Samsung. (Panasonic announced one UHD Blu-ray player with Dolby Vision at CES last January, but none of its TVs support the format as far as I know.) Along with 20th Century Fox, these companies have put their development efforts behind HDR10+. Two other content providers, Warner Bros. and Amazon, have also announced they will produce content using HDR10+, and HDR10+ Technologies claims that over 40 companies support the format.

The HDR10+ licensing and certification program is available to companies that make video displays, source devices, SoC (system on chip) integrated circuits, content, and tools. Certified products can display the HDR10+ logo so consumers know that they are getting a certain level of performance that conforms to a set of specs.

The use of HDR10+ is royalty-free, but licensing and certification incurs an annual fee. According to the HDR10+ Technologies website, display manufacturers are charged $10,000/year for administration, SoC vendors are charged $4000/year, and source-device makers are charged $2500/year. Content companies and tool vendors have no annual administration fee.

Interestingly, there are no certification requirements listed for SoC vendors and content companies. Also, the certification requirement for source-device makers and tool vendors is a “self-test.” The only companies that require certification by an authorized test center are display manufacturers.

Of course, the proof is in the pudding—or in this case, the adoption. If lots of content with HDR10+ is made available and many source devices and displays can render it, HDR10+ will become a major element in the HDR landscape. Time will tell, and I look forward to seeing what happens."

Is smart rendering on MP4 files possible?

$

I'm skilled enough with Mpeg2 editing (with smart rendering) and DVD authoring, been doing it for years. On the other hand, I'm definitely a newbie when it's time to work on formats more used nowadays like MP4 or mov.

This is my current project, if you have any hints or advices about it I'd be more than glad:

- I have a bunch of mp4 files (different sections of a concert I filmed). I would like to join them with very simple transitions between one and the other (just a little blending): is there a program that would allow me to do this without reencoding the whole thing?

So far, I only edited MP4 files with Wondershare Filmora because, unlike this one, it was all projects where reencoding would have been ok.

GoPro Settings

Hello,

I am using a GoPro as a backup to my primary camera (Panasonic AG-DVX 200) and need the settings to match. I had planned on shooting UHD on the Panasonic (which is higher res than the 1080 FHD). However, I don’t see a UHD option on my GoPro Hero 6. I’m left with the following choices on the GoPro: 4K, 4K 4:3, 2.7K, 1440, 1080, 720. Obviously, I won't be using the latter but I'm not sure which setting will match the UHD footage that I'll be using on my primary camera.
Any advice is appreciated!

New Computer, new device? Do I need to replace my Canopus ADVC-100?

Apologies, I'm sure this forum is inundated with these posts - and I've browsed a few.

So I currently have a PC that's on it's way out and am already building a new one, and as such, there will be no firewire port. I'm going for a smaller form factor, so there just aren't the extra expansion slots on the board I bought.

I have an ADVC-100 and it's always been great. Plays well with Premiere which I capture into directly so I can trim, filter, etc. What I'm wondering is - will a simple convertor to usb still allow it to work, I feel like I've read that there can be issues and it's not guaranteed?

https://www.amazon.com/ANiceSeller-Firewire-Female-Adaptor-Convertor/dp/B00VRN2OTY/ref...1394+converter

At $6 i'll try one out, but if not - what's a good replacement device? I don't need to capture HDMI - I'm only converting old vhs tapes - but i also may rent a multi-vcr to digitize some PAL tapes as well, so I'd want to make sure there's no issues - and I don't need any software - I just want to capture lossless directly into Premiere.

Thanks for any and all help and tips.

Combining AVI files in Virtualdub gives the wrong length video...?

$

Howdy,

I have some videos on an old MiniDV camcorder that I offloaded into AVI files. It broke the 40 minute video into 4 files. three of them are 12:30 and the last one is 3:32. If I open up any of the individual files, they all show the correct length.

I added the first file into VirtualDub just fine. I then did the Append AVI segment and selected the second one. That inflated my video from 12:30 to 41:04 instead of 25:00 like it should have. The total frames also jumped from 22500 to 73868 instead of 45000. Adding the third 12:30 file jumped the total up to 57:07.

I've never had this problem before. Can anyone recommend what might be causing this?

The end result I need is an MP4 file that is a combination of the 4 files I have. Normally I do it in two steps (Join and then Convert) but I'm open to other options if anyone has them.

Thanks!

Will 2007 Monitor Work with Acer Spin 513-51?

Hi,

I have an Acer Spin 513-51 58W laptop, which I am hoping to get working with aSamsung Syncmaster 206BW monitor which I bought new in 2007.

This is just a stop-gap measure to allow me some time to save for two state ofthe art monitors; I realize that the monitor will probably not even be able tohandle 1080p.

The Spin 5 has the following connections:
1 x USB 3 ports
2 x USB 2 ports
1 x HDMI port

The Syncmaster has the following connections:
1 x 15 pin D-Sub (RGB IN) port
1 x DVI (DVI IN HDCP) port

I have a few questions about this:
1. Is it possible to get the monitor working with the Spin 5?
2. If it is possible to get the Spin 5 and Syncmaster 206BW to work together, what connections should I use? HDMI on the Spin 5 to DV on the monitor?Or can I connect the the
monitor to one of the USB ports on the Spin 5?

Many thanks in advance for any help you can give me with this.

Cutting HEVC MKV on keyframes without corrupting frames?

$

Downloaded and installed AVIdemux 2.7.1 and went to chop a commercial from an MKV with HEVC video. It has a bug. If you use the next keyframe button to set start and end markers, it complains that they're not on keyframes. Use the previous keyframe button and there are no complaints.

However, I get identical corruption for a few frames after the edit if I set the end marker with the next or previous button. The only difference with using previous is there's one additional frame left in. I'm doing a passthrough copy of audio and video.

Before editing those frames are fine.

So, is there another program that can edit this file, with passthrough for video and audio, that won't screw up a few frames?

Syncing iTunes between two Macs Help Please

$

I'm not sure where this post should go and I'm taking a shot in the dark in hopes that someone familiar with Macs can help me. All of my video and movie files are on a network drive and iTunes has that location stored in the iTunes folder that is in my local iMac Music folder. I want to transfer iTunes and all of the media files to a different Mac. I would like it set up the same way where the iTunes folder and all my music files are on the local Mac drive in the music folder and all my video and movie files are now on an external hard drive.

How can I do this so when I open iTunes on the new Mac all my video and movie files are recognized and the path name is the same between my network drive attached to my iMac and the external drive on my new Mac?
