Remove interlaced artifacts on progressive video.

$

I have some videos, which seems to be that someone who converted these videos from interlaced ones to progressive, forgot to add deinterlacing into a process.
As result now video is progressive, but "lines" in motion are still present.
There are similar topic, and no simple solution in every situation.
Video has no/minimal artifacts when player window is downscaling movie, but when its 1:1 - issues are eye catching.
Files are NSFW, and I made SFW 5 seconds sample, to represent problem.
Here is comparison - https://i.imgur.com/ptWAEow.png both files are stored on different sites, and you can see that an approach in converting them is different.

So what I'm asking for, what are main steps would be, to re-encode video and get rid of interlaced video artifacts? (If it's possible)

Need help fixing Panasonic DMR-ES15 drive (video of issue included!)

Hi

I recently acquired the DMR-ES15 (PAL) and the drive seems to think there's a disc in there. It sounds like the laser is trying to locate and read.

Here's the video, you can hear it after a bit of Please Wait. You can see the disc icon is on in the display when the trays empty.

Im good at taking stuff apart so any help appreciated.

[Potplayer] - play last played file

$

Hello everyone,

I've used Daum PotPlayer for years now (and KMP before it) and never had any issues with it, recently though, I'm starting to have an issue with it all of a sudden, clicking the "Play" button will not play my last played file automatically, instead, it will bring up the "open" window for me to browse for the file I want to play (defaulted to the "Videos" folder under my user account in windows, I'm on Windows 10 x64 by the way).

I tried everything to correct that but haven't had any luck so far, here's some stuff I tried:

- Checking the "play the last played file" box under Preferences -> General -> Startup (looks like the right option for my

case but NEVER WORKED OUT !)

- Resetting my Preferences

- Uninstalling PotPlayer and Reinstalling it

- Using a different version/build of PotPlayer (I have to mention here that there was that one time when I used a x86 version of the player and it worked for a couple of days THEN it went back to the same behavior without me changing anything)

Finally I'd like to mention that I'm NOT trying to get the player to REMEMBER last played POSITION within a playlist or a single file, I've seen MANY posts discussing that and it's NOT what I'm trying to do. I simply want the player to play me the very last file it was playing the last time I used it, that's all

Sorry for the lenghty post and thanks alot in advance for any ideas and help...

VP9 vs x264

$

Hello Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows the approximate relation between bitrate and quality(even though it is subjective) for x264 vs VP9 encoders at low bitrates, 400-900 kbps and 480p resolution videos.

I understand VP9 is better. But how much?

Thanks in advance.

Improving grain on 8mm film / Avisynth script huge file size

$

I mentioned in another post that I used a Wolverine movie digitizer to turn a bunch of old 8mm movies into mp4's to pass out to family members on DVD. The device captures frame by frame images and turns them into an mp4. Now that I see what others are doing with 8mm restoration I'm interested in seeing if these captures can be improved.

I believe that all of my movies were made on a mid to late 60s Kodak Instamatic. A second one of probably early 70s vintage was also used. My first question is: is it possible that making my own telecine like here to get higher resolution captures will improve the quality of the frame by frame capture? There's a lot of noise in some of these films and I'm wondering if the fact that a cheap camera was used to make these movies is going to quash the possibility of getting any NOTICEABLY better captures. I really don't want to take the time to build a telecine if it's going to be a coin toss as to whether the telecine captures improve the quality over the Wolverine.

In the meantime, I ran a couple of my existing Wolverine 720x480 digitized movies through Blender to get rid of the left/right black border and to set the fps to 18. This increased the file size on a 2 minute movie from 40MB to 223MB. The bit rate jumped from 3000 kbps to 9300 kbps. That seems like an incredible jump in size. Is that normal? Is there any way to control the bit rate in Blender? Given what I changed (a crop and change in fps only) it doesn't make sense that the bit rate would change that much.

Finally, after using Blender I then ran the output through video Fred's AviSynth script from doom9 to improve the overall quality of the movies. This took the file size from 223MB to either 4GB or 7GB (depending on the settings I used)!! Again, is this normal? That's a huge increase in file size! The bit rate jumps from 9300kbps to 179 Mbps after using the script. i just tried reducing the bit rate with ffmpeg and the file size does drop to 93MB when reducing the bit rate to 4Mbps, but the video won't play in MPC for some reason. I'll play around with ffmpeg so I'm not really worried about that at the moment though.

Subtitle sync help

Hi,

I've a movie which has korean hardcoded subtitles in it. I have an SRE of the english subtitles but it's not sync'd. How do I sync the Eng subtitles with the hardcoded one? The Korean subtitles are properly timed/sync'd. The Eng subtitles are a bit bolder so easy to read overwriting on the Korean one.

Thanks

Is there some way to copy a subtitle style from an .ssa file (e.g: a style called "Conversation") to several other .ssa files at the same time? I'm currently using Aegisub, but as far as I know there's no such feature in it. I have several episodes with the same style and I need to edit the style in all the episodes, to increase the text size.

For more than the past decade i have set up my windows laptop, with mpc-be- LAv Filters-MADvr and mapped windows function to the buttons of my favoite bluetooth remote controller, and i just cant let go. I have been flirting with the notion of migrating with a standalone Android Box, but have still to take the leap

Could any of the best media player implementation of Android (VLC/MXplayer) reach the levels of the aforementioned filters and plugins

If the difference isnt that huge maybe its time to go for that sweet android box

Windows 10 Updates "Broke" DVD Shrink And Other Programs on PC

Hello, dear all.

I always use DVD Shrink ( and other programs too, just like Sub Station Alpha ). For years.

My OS is Windows 10 - 64 Bits.

This programs used to work even in Windows 10, some weeks ago.

But after some update strangely they do work anymore.

My guess is that happened because of the update.

How can I fix that? And prevent this to happen again?

I try uninstall and reinstall DVD Shrink again. Do not work. Even using a portable version does not work.

When I open the DVD Shrink the program freezes. And some menus of the program "trembles".

Nothing works. And I have to close the program using contrl + alt+ del. The situation is so bad that even to screen capture the screen's desktop to post here is impossible to do. Until I close the program I could not catch any screen.

Sub Station Alpha do not work anymore too. The program just launchs it's icon, but do not open completely.

Need help with downloading streams from camsite https://showup.tv/

Need to know how link pattern would look like. Some guy told me there's pretty easy with getting link from debug log. (You can get debug log by entering any live stream on showup.tv then right click on the player and "copy debug log")

Example Debug Log

So I've tested other capture software and I have no problems with MP4 playback what so ever. I have checked and seen that the codecs being used are the same as the codecs used for the MP4's that work fine. I don't have any clue why this happens with Avermeda Recentral captures at all. I can convert the video file to MP4 using Handbreak then the video works fine however I want this to work out of the box with no problems. I spent $249 on this piece of hardware and I just feel like I have wasted money and I don't like that feeling. Here is a video of the problem. I am using the hack so Recentral allows HDCP devices to record but I have seen nobody has had this problem but me.

Hi! I am trying to get the cli version of mediainfo to print the color matrix info; In the full output I found three sections that apply: "Color primaries", "Transfer characteristics" and "Matrix coefficients"

I tried to use: mediainfo --inform="Video;%Colour_primaries%,%transfer_charact eristics%,%matrix_coeficients%" Inputfile.mkv

but it just returns a blank line and back to command prompt.

would appreciate any helpful info from those experienced with cli mediainfo
