Audition Seems to Drop or be Missing Dialogue Channel

$

So I've got this issue where I'm trying to pull in a 6 channel FLAC file into Adobe Audition, but it only seems to pull in or playback the background noise and not any of the dialogue. When I play the FLAC file in VLC it works fine, and I can hear all the dialogue though. It looks like it could be a setting issue, or just a playback issue within Audition.

What I'm trying to do is adjust the audio to match a video. I've got an HD version of a Japanese movie that only has Japanese audio, and I've got the DVD version that has English audio. Both tracks were AC3 (which my version of Audition will not import), so I converted them to FLAC using TAudioConverter. And they play just fine in VLC, but Audition seems to have an issue.

The FLAC file has 6 channels when it imports to Audition and all channels have a waveform (not sure of correct terminology there). But channels 3 to 6 don't seem to play. If I mute channel 1 & 2; I get silence, but it looks like audition is playing audio. Now that I'm writing it; it looks like channel 3 is the center channel and probably contains the dialogue as it looks like that channel contains the most audio. But nothing comes through my speakers when I hit play.

Audition says "Reading libsndfile..." while loading the FLAC file if that helps at all.

I'd like to keep the highest quality audio if I can, so I'd like to figure this out and not have to convert it to an MP3 file.

Issues with UEFI defaults being loaded

Sometimes I get on startup "UEFI defaults have been loaded, press F2 to enter setup or F1 to continue." I have an Asrock motherboard, and at https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/uefi-defaults-have-been-loaded.2754234/ I found 2 other users with Asrock motherboard having the same problem. Does anyone know cause of or fix for this problem, and do you think this may be a fault or failure associated with Astock motherboards?

DSLR Vs Camcorder

I want to record a classroom session to upload to an online school site as well as create training videos to upload to YouTube, usually one subject in each video. Is DSLR a better option than a Camcorder? I'm concerned with the time limit with DSLR but also concerned that Camcorder technology seems to be getting outdated. Any advice would be great, Thanks

The decoding process (like a real LaserDisc player) is a multi-stage process. The raw RF must be demodulated (from the original FM signal) and filtered into video, audio and EFM data. This data is then framed and passed through a digital time-base correction (TBC) process which attempts to remove errors caused by the mechanical nature of a LaserDisc player during capture.

The resulting TBC output is then run through a chroma-decoder (comb-filter in NTSC speak) which recovers the original color as raw RGB. The raw RGB can then be processed into PNG frames or video files such as mp4 or avi for viewing using open tools such as ffmpeg.

Please see the Installation guide for details of how to download and install ld-decode and the basic usage guide for instructions on how to use ld-decode.

An overview of how a LaserDisc player functions (which can help you to understand the component parts of ld-decode) is available from this link.

"vhs-decode"

Very early stages. The fellow working on it here-and-there is from Norway, so all the work is on PAL captures, and he is using the old cxadc capture method instead of the Domesday Duplicator hardware.

The driver puts it into some raw mode that makes it output the raw signal (at 28.6 MHz sampling frequency, with 8bit resolution.) The DdD which is used for the laserdisc captures now is 40MHZ 10-bit so it may give a nicer signal, but I don't know as I haven't got one yet.

I used a standard BNC test probe (probes that came with my analog discovery 2 usb scope), using a BNC to RCA adapter to connect it to the capture card. The probe was connected the rf test point on a SONY SLV-SE60N VHS deck, a mid-range 4 head Hi-Fi deck. So nothing fancy. (Had to use the s-video connector on the capture card for whatever reason, so used a S-Video-> RCA dongle from a graphics card I had lying around in reverse to connect.)

Had to adjust the IRE zero-point in the decoder to pick up the syncs correctly. I just eyeballed it from a signal plot, not sure how to calculate it properly, and also disable some audio stuff in the code to avoid it crashing.
Note that the video on the tape is recorded from TV, I think that's the cause of the ghosting you can spot. I made a color bar test tape on a SVHS deck that I will try to capture later.

Since people are talking about video tape again, here's a status update and a decoded image (PAL) from a VHS tape from the current VHS. I just did some work to approximate the right de-emphasis today which seems to have helped a bit.

I haven't done any colour decoding as of yet. The color carrier is in the captured data, but it has to be phase shifted based on which video track it's on (VHS does this to reduce crosstalk), and heterodyned(or whatever the right term is) up to the right frequency.

The comb filter/color decoder in ld-decode assumes a composite signal at the moment, but for a color-under format like VHS one would ideally want to avoid mixing the color signal in and decode the color separately, so that's also something that needs to be implemented.

VHS (and other videotape vcrs) typically have some extra frequency and phase correction of the colour signal to compensate for the uneven tape speed as well, but I'll leave that for later.

The TBC may need a bit of tweaking too, it gets confused by the head switching point at the moment.

Current project is at https://github.com/oyvindln/ld-decode

I've so far tried to keep it compatible with upstream, so all the VHS stuff are in separate files.

Feel free to contribute, I can upload the raw .lds captures if needed.

.MPG to Plex

I have an .MPG file burned onto a Blu-Ray disc. It's an HD DVR recording that was copied from a Cable DVR. I'm trying to get this recording onto Plex. The .MPG file plays perfectly fine using software (VLC, etc.). But to get it on Plex, it needs to be an MP4 or an MKV. What can I use to convert it without losing any quality? MakeMKV will not work with the disc. It just scans it and then the big drive button is greyed out.

Thanks.

Add audio and subtitles to blu-ray disc

So, this is kind of a sad story, since Disney stop releasing blu-ray's in Portugal and focus only on DVD's, and I wanted to have their movies in high quality.
Then I thought, I can take the audio and subtitles of the DVD release of Portugal, and add it to a foreign blu-ray release, but it looks like no one knows how to do so, can anybody help me? I've been searching how to do this during the whole year, and I can't find any tutorial or program that might help.

Resuming:
I want to extract the Portuguese audio and subtitles from the DVD release of Portugal, and add these in a foreign blu-ray release while keeping the menu, scenes and extras. Thanks

Best anti-aliasing filter in Staxrip?

I've tested some out in the preview screen and it's quite hard to pick which does the best job.

Is there one which is specially good?

I have two videos I need it for. One which only needs a tiny bit of anti-aliasing. Then there is one which has a lot of uneven edges and is in desperate need for a strong aliasing filter.

What's the sector format on audio CDs?

$

On data CDs, the structure of a single sector is header, data, footer. The sector contains a time stamp (yes, even on data disks, it references time, rather than number of bytes, because CD hardware is based on time position in the audio, as CDs were originally only audio technology). With data CDs, the complete sector size is 2352 bytes, with the actual payload data taking up only 2048 bytes (and the header and footer together have only 304 bytes total).

So this leaves me with some questions about audio CD sectors. Do they have the same format (header, data, footer) as a data CD, or is the entire sector containing audio data? Is the sector size for audio CDs 2352 bytes, as it is for data CDs?

I need some help with FFMPEG and IFOEDIT for DVD authoring

$
0
0
I have created a vob file with the following command line.
"ffmpeg.exe -i testin.avi -f dvd VTS_01_1.VOB"

testin.avi was a simple 720x480 video file I made myself, who's frame rate is 29.97fps. All specs as it should be for video that is suitable for a DVD.

Then I created the required additional files with ifoedit.exe and accepting the default settings. It ouutput the following files:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_01_1.IFO
VTS_01_1.BUP

I copied my VOB file and all the files generated by IFOEDIT into a folder called VIDEO_TS, and I created an empty folder called AUDIO_TS. I put both of these folders into a folder called DVD, and then used Folder2ISO to create a DVD ISO image. I set the Joliet character set to ISO8859-1 (which I believe is correct for video DVDs) in Folder2ISO, and set its source folder to my folder called DVD and set its output file name to video.iso and then ran it to create the ISO file.

The resulting video ISO file I loaded into an Alcohol 52% virtual drive, and then attempted to play that disk in VLC. The result was that it didn't recognize it as a legitimate DVD (though I could easily access the individual files on the disk image, and even directly play the VOB file in VLC player). Thinking it was maybe just a bug in Alcohol 52%, I also attempted to load the ISO into a couple other virtual drive programs, all with no success in getting VLC player to recognize and play the disk (or more accurately, the disk image).

I could test it on a real DVD player, to see if it's just a software issue, but I don't want to waste physical disks in the process of debugging this.

So I've decided to turn to Video Help Forum for some help. My intent is to simply create a single-title single-chapter DVD with no menu, which will instantly start playback when the real disk is inserted into a real DVD player. And furthermore, my intent is to use free software. Furthermore, FFMPEG MUST be part of the tool chain. It gives me the most control over the VOB creation, allowing me to manually create very high quality VOB files (simply by using the command line switch -b:v 8000k to set the bit rate to 8000 kbps for example) instead of whatever low quality defaults might be used in free DVD authoring software (commercial DVD authoring software might allow higher quality settings, but I'd have to pay for it, which I'm trying to avoid).

Hi
I'm in a band and make our live videos myself - whilst playing the violin! So I need to set up my cameras before the gig and they need to run for up to 1hr 30mins (or at least 45 mins if our set is divided by an interval). I'd like to use an Osmo 3 gimble so I can set a phone up to track the singer on stage but guess this would need a phone which can film continuously - not split the shoot into 4gb files as I assume the stopping and starting would cancel the tracking setting. Is there a phone out there that can do this? I'd like to use a phone with a 2x telephoto lens as I can't put the tripod right in front of the singer because it would look terrible for the audience.
Thanks in advance for your help and comments.

Mpd MediasetPlay [Italian Site]

Hi everyone, I write with the translator because I'm an Italian so I apologize if I'm wrong.
is it possible to download the mpd video from this page? https://www.mediasetplay.mediaset.it/video/igrandiimperidellastoria/i-maya_F309199101000405
When I try to analyze the manifest file, I get this link: https://vod05.msf.cdn.mediaset.net/farmunica/2019/08/434394_16c8a1006b07d2/dashrcenc/sd_wv_mpl.mpd which I think is the Manifest file.
I tried to download the video with ffmpeg using the command: ffmpeg -i "https://vod05.msf.cdn.mediaset.net/farmunica/2019/08/434394_16c8a1006b07d2/dashrcenc/sd_wv_mpl.mpd" -codec copy prova.mp4 and this is the result:

Then I opened the video with vlc and it gives me this:

I decided to use the Bento4 tool to try to decrypt the mp4 file but I can't find the "Default_KID" key to decrypt the video. This is what gives me the analysis of the video "prova.mp4" using the command: mp4info --verbose prova.mp4

Hello to everyone... I am a looong time computer user, but i guess a newbie at video playback.

I have been using mpc-hc all my life. Simple, Portable, etc.

I was very pleased to see it maintained in here even though it is not on the original website.

I am starting to play HDR and 4K content on my Oled TV and I am getting very dull picture with mpc-hc.

Is there a way to enable the HDR/4K content to be beautiful like in mpv ?
