Recovered m2ts fragments: Resurrection

$

After eight years of recording and deleting video on a Panasonic HDC-HS80, running assorted data recovery software has yielded a couple thousand m2ts fragments, most of which are unplayable. Obviously, the smallest of these contain little or no actual visual data but I'm interested in viewing the ones that do. I hope to salvage even individual frames if that's all that's possible. I've been looking into comparative hex editing and searching for time code info but (being new to this) I feel a bit out of my depth.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Digged through the settings, and could not find something to disable it.

I have a weird problem. Converting mp4 files using mcebuddy. File works fine but if i try to stream the file to another device using plex or even opening the file from a shared folder on another computer the audio is out of synce by almost 2 whole seconds. The only way the file works is if played directly from the file location or if i open plex, set the video to play on a third party video player app and play it. I cant play it in plex directly. Running windows 7. I want to run windows 7 because it is a free computer i got from work i want to uses as a media server. PLEASE HELP. No one from mcebuddy forum is answering me about this.

A while back, I bought a dvd of this film that was more like a stage play. jonathan rhys Meyers starred in it. It took place in a castle. A star studded cast & it was basically about class warfare and how the poor are treated. I want to call it Gavalstville, or something like that. The guy who played Peter Petegrew on Harry Potter was in it.

Hi Guys,

Im new here. I have video 3840 x 2160 pixels and I used pinnacle studio 22 ultimate for editing my video and I will say it is ok on editing but when it comes in an output it is blurred even my video is clear. I tried H264 1080p 30mbit/s 29fps on 6mins for 700mb. Am I doing wrong thats why my output is blurred? If not, what should I do? Do I need to change my video editor? What do you suggest for a good video output?

Thanks in advance.

Aegisub user issue (actor column)

Hi everyone. I was trying to find help for a particular user issue with aegisub, but it seems their forums are down. Maybe someone here can lend a little hand ?
The question is : is there any shortcut or quick way to edit the "actor" column when subtitling ?
I used to work on txt for translation work, and type "Actor1 : Dialog, dialog", then convert it to .ass and the actor column was filled, without my fingers leaving the keyboard.
But I've been asked to work directly on pretimed .ass files and when working on large files, 300 lines or so, it gets very tiring to use the mouse to edit the actor item everytime...
If anyone has an idea...
Thanks for your help !

DisneyNow seems to have changed their setup - any suggestions?

AMR file repair/recovery

Namaste,

I need a little help to repair/recover a corrupt AMR file.

Due to phone crash while being on a call, the recorded audio file was saved but cannot be played. So I tried different methods to repair and play the file but in vein.

Lately while searching, I came across about mp4repair.org and surprisingly they can repair the file. But it costs too much like a few hundreds $$$.

So what I wish, is there any software(paid or free) or any ways which can solve this problem ?

Thanks and sorry for any mistake.

May you all have wonderful days ahead.

How to start a new project in Scenalyzer?

Bear for me to ask this true dummy-question:
All the clips stays on screen when I've finished capturing one tape and start a new one, even though I set a new capture-folder. I cannot find something like "New project" or "New tape" - I would like a blank canvas when I start capturing a new tape.
How to do?

Betamax digitizing help of a rare film.

Hello everybody, how are you? I need some serious help. I found on ebay a betamax tape of 1963's 'Cleopatra' with a running time of 3 hours and 10 minutes. You may or may not know but this running time was for the theatrical version released all over the world back in 1963 and has not been seen since, so this is extremely rare if this is in fact the version the tape contains. The tape is official and was manufactured in Australia. I gave it to a professional to have it digitized but he says the tape contains something that stops it from being copied, if it is copied all you get is static or the sound can't be heard. Does anyone know what I can do to have this digitized?

Frame-by-frame combing detection in AviSynth

$

I'm trying to find a way to run a combing detection algorithm through AviSynth. I know of two functions that could be used Decomb/IsCombed and TIVTC/IsCombedTIVTC. Has anyone experience with those functions and knows if one is more accurate than the other?

Now I'd like to run this function on every frame and output a log that would say something like "combing from frame X to Y" every time combing is detected. The algorithm would be as follow

Code:

bool combingFound := false
for-each frame in clip {
  if isCombed(frame) {
      if !combingFound {
        combingFound := true
        startFrame := frame
      }
  } else {
      if combingFound {
        combingFound := false
        writeLog("Combing from " + startFrame + " to " + frame)
      }
  }
}

I'm not sure how to write that in AviSynth unfortunately. I've also found this script

Code:

<input>
global unused_ = blankclip(pixel_type="yv12", length=10).TFM()
file="<temporary-file.log>"
global sep="-"
function IsMoving()
{
  global b = (diff < 1.0) ? false : true
}
c = SelectRangeEvery(every=<every>,length=<length>)
global clip = c
c = WriteFile(c, file, "a", "sep", "b")
c = FrameEvaluate(c, "global a = IsCombedTIVTC(clip, cthresh=9)")
c = FrameEvaluate(c, "IsMoving")
c = FrameEvaluate(c,"global diff = 0.50*YDifferenceFromPrevious(clip) + 0.25*UDifferenceFromPrevious(clip) + 0.25*VDifferenceFromPrevious(clip)")
crop(c,0,0,16,16)

From http://avisynth.nl/index.php/Interlace_detection but I don't understand how to interpret the results. It looks like the log needs to be fed to something else for interpretation. I've tried using the standalone but I'm getting an error trying to run it on a script.

how to adjust the subtitle time of film, omitting the advertisement video

Hi, i downloaded very old movie and i got the subtitles of the film in english also.
the length of the movie seems tally with the movie time.
i have a free version of a video converter which allows me to convert and include subtitles.
the subtitle starts at 00:00:30.973 milliseconds.
the film has a hugh advertisement of nearly 3 minutes, cigar advt.
i have a free program of adjusting time to just start at 3 minutes and few seconds, which subsequent changes in the whole srt files.
Now the problem is , if i just change the subtitle to 3 minutes and 30 seconds , as in my example, i get the changed subtitle file.
but the problem is total subtitle also changes for the subsequent subtitle lilnes, which over reach the total video time.
how can i change the subtitle correctlyl.
is there any quick solution. the github community has given a html program to change the subtitle script to easiy adjust the first start line of subtitle.
experts , please tell me the solultion.
if i change the first lilne , it correctly coincide with the movie, but the total subtitle line time changes to more than video time

Under DVD Media from the main VideoHelp homepage menu, if I choose a media from the list and then try to open (click to enlarge) a media image, I always get the above error message.

I noticed this problem ages ago and I am surprised that it is not yet fixed.

The complete error message is:

SD Content on 43-50" TV vs 32"

My grandma needs a bigger TV because she can't see the numbers/letters on her game shows and sporting events (football, baseball). The problem I'm having is that she lives in an assisted living facility (ALF) that only gets SD cable (480i, I think - it's Comcast), plus all her game shows and favorite TV shows are 480p anyway. So I have no idea how that would look on a bigger TV, we're either going to get a 43" or 50". I'm also having trouble understanding how viewing distance plays into that.

Additionally, I want to consider the possibility that at some point in time she could get HD cable, but I doubt it. I did hook up a Fire TV stick for her, but she cannot use it on her own. I turn something on when I'm there and the HD picture is so much easier for her to see.

So... How can I know what size TV to get with SD cable? I've seen SD satellite (Dish) on both a 43" and 50" from maybe 7-10 feet away and it looks horrible, though the 43" is better. But that's Dish and both TVs are hooked up to the STB via HDMI, whereas Grandma's TV will likely be hooked up via coax/RF.

I'm sitting here looking at these viewing charts and it's honestly confusing to me. Grandma doesn't care that 480 or 1080 looks best at a certain distance, she just wants to be able to see numbers/letters better and not have a horrible picture when viewing SD content. Unfortunately, because of the room layout, she's stuck sitting about 12.5 feet away from the TV. According to the viewing chart, it looks like at that distance, anything over 40" will produce a grainy picture at 480p.

Architectural Q: How would you unify serving your media in late-2019?

$

Hi, all! Not new to HTPCs and media ripping/editing, but I am quite rusty on new/latest tech and overwhelmed with researching the separate component possibilities. So I figured it would be better to ask some people who "just know" things like this off-the-cuff, in order to gain a focused direction in which to research.

So, let's say you had the following "items" in operation ... what would you recommend as the best (or top 2) free/economical approaches to accomplishing a smooth & easy method to serve your content (and consume some cable TV) under a unified platform/umbrella?

I'll organized the "items" by the "heads" ...
  • HEADLESS:
  • FreeBSD (Unix) server running Samba4 (for Windows/SMB share service)
  • thousands of legit ripped/recorded movies & TV shows (H.264 & MPEG-2, mostly in WTV, slowly being shrunk & converted to MKV ... and I'm only just hearing about H.265?)
  • gigabit wired Ethernet
  • SiliconDust HDHomeRun 3-channel CableCARD networked box
  • Panasonic 50" plasma 1080p TV (older not "smart"):
  • HTPC running Win7Home & WMC (H67 Intel board, i3-2100 CPU, built-in graphics, 4GB RAM; WinTV 1-channel card (supports direct local cable); Hauppaugge Colossus PVR card)
  • Logitech K400 wireless keyboard/pad-mouse
  • Xbox One S
  • Verizon FiOS "2-channel" Set Top Box (aging)
  • Yamaha AVR (probably irrelevant here)
  • Universal WR7 remote control
  • Vizio 32" LCD 1080p "Smart" TV (supports DNLP):
  • Xbox 360 (fully operational)
  • WMC remote control
  • Note: formerly ran a Win7Home laptop as an HTPC here, but it died; only to be replaced if deemed necessary
  • 2nd Logitech K400 wireless keyboard/pad-mouse (for the aforementioned laptop)

Notably Missing: any smartphones of any kind; just some merely-semi-reliable tablets in the house (nerfed-Amazon + full-Android); could add 2 current tablets on Black Friday

How Present Items Are/Was Working:
  • Both HTPCs could/can tap into the SiliconDust box for live cable TV and record content (other house PCs tap in via VLC for watching only)
  • WMC as main interface on both Win7 HTPCs
  • WMC ran/runs old MediaBrowser3 add-in to present owned-media (in a Kodi-like manner, but inferior) on both HTPCs
  • Upon death of Vizio HTPC, Xbox360 was attempted as a WMC extension to the Panny WMC "master" but the 360 WMC doesn't support the MediaBrowser add-in (eliminating all owned-media for the Vizio TV)
  • because the Vizio TV is also directly wired to the Set Top Box on a separate floor, live cable TV is available to the Vizio TV if watching the same channel as the Panny TV

Prevailing Theory:
With 1 HTPC dead, Win7 sunsetting soon, and MediaBrowser way out-of-date (and requiring higher maintenance levels), I think it may be time to replace the software services with some combination of Kodi, SiliconDust's HDHomeRun app (for cable feed), and possibly Plex?? So far, I know that Kodi has a HDHomeRun plug-in, but I have never used Plex.

The questions/thoughts in my mind that I don't expect anyone to answer all of (just letting you know where I am with this):
  • Is it possible that Plex is available on all relevant platforms here and has enough features to "do it all", i.e., serve from the Unix box, organize & consume from the living HTPC, support Xbox 360 for the non-HTPC TV, and maybe even watch/record from cable feed? But I gather Plex is not free for all this; but for the right parts of this? Plex talks a good game (on their site), but could it actually work 100% with my setup here? Or just pieces?
  • Or is there some other way to use the Xbox 360 to support the Vizio TV?
  • Or should I be looking at a Roku/Google/Apple/etc. TV box, or a Raspberry Pi build, or some other cheap laptop to "re-HTPC" the Vizio TV?
  • Is there a way the Xbox One S helps here?
  • Is there anything better overall that can serve from Unix and be consumed by a PC and list other types of devices?

Bottom Line Question:
If you had all this stuff lying around and working good enough for now, how would you most economically change this architecture to plan for the near future? (I figure planning for a long-term future is pointless the way tech changes.)

Converting to AVI for Virtualdub?

Hi guys. I recently upgraded to a new PC that is running windows 10 and since then, no matter what I did, my old capture card would not work. I went and got a new Roxio VHS to DVD usb setup today. Works fine with it's own software but does NOT export to a .avi that virtualdub will take.
When I try to capture with Virtualdub, I hear audio but get no picture no matter what preview mode that I set it to.
Is there a lossless convertor out there that I can convert videos in to an avi that Virtualdub will accept?
Thanks guys :)

Trouble Ripping DVD with MakeMKV

I ripped it to an ISO with ImgBurn some time back. Trying to rip the ISO fails:
Code:

Using direct disc access mode
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #1 does not match one in IFO header.
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #2 does not match one in IFO header.
Calculated BUP offset for VTS #3 does not match one in IFO header.

Using the disc almost works:
Code:

Using direct disc access mode
Using LibreDrive mode (v05 id=067EFCA8EA7E)
IFO file for VTS #2 is corrupt, VOB file must be scanned. This may take very long time, please be patient.
IFO file for VTS #3 is corrupt, VOB file must be scanned. This may take very long time, please be patient.
Open DVD manually : "1"
Cells 2-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Cells 43-end were skipped due to cell commands (structure protection?)
Complex multiplex encountered - 7 cells and 10296 VOBUs have to be scanned. This may take some time, please be patient - it can't be avoided.
Title #1/0/1 was added (7 cell(s), 2:44:38)
Operation successfully completed

Only issue is it's about five minutes short. I had another disc behaving the same way, but only when opening automatically. Opening manually got me that last five minutes and allowed me to rip the full disc.

Why is this happening? Are there any workarounds?
