I've been using ffmpeg in command line but I was wondering if there a GUI available that has a video preview so I can see exactly where I can crop the video instead of me using a media player to determine the start and end time and plug into command line.

I want to make one or 2 video montages Some advice please :)
Hello all!
As this seems the correct forum I have a question for all of you.
It is: could you give me some advice?
The story: My name is Kevin and I will go abroad within 2 weeks for about 7 months.
I want to make one or 2 video montages within this period for my girlfriend and 1 as a general montage for all I have done.
I will go to 3 countries and work there for 2-3 months each.
I would love to shoot a video to send my girlfriend. (So something 'cute' in it :) )
These are the first ideas I had for some shots: - first before I leave a few seconds of my home town and in the car leaving. Also some shots of me and my gf together
- going through airport security and some airplane footage.
- some shots of where I live, daily life and special occurences.
- some more airplane security
- something nice for my gf ( like I miss you with photos or videos of us)
The thing is, I only have a gropro and my phone camera (samsung galaxy s4). And i am also rather noob in the whole video making and making montages so all tips/links/insights are very welcome!!
Thank you very much in advance for any trouble taken!

Play the Samsung UHD Content pack on my SHARP TV
I recently just picked up this deal and I want to watch the 4k media on my Sharp TV.
It looks like Attachment 32529 all of these files have <filename>.um4 + <filename>.smi which I believe caries the encryption key.
I have tried the following to get this file to play. I don't have a 4k PC (running Debian Jessie amd64) but I still cant find a way to decript the um4 files and make them play on my Sharp:
* Downloaded DRMDECRYPT and renamed <filenames>.um4 to <filename>.srf and same with <filename>.smi to <filename>.mdb
* DRMDECRYPT gives no message but the remaining file of new file is 0KB.
* I have downloaded the latest FFMPEG and compiled from source following this LINK
* ffmpeg gives the following error when trying to re-encode
Help please, I can host a 500MB .um4 file if needed.

Video Encoders Screw Up My Videos
Hello everyone. I've been using XviD4PSP 5 for a while now. I seem to have this problem; some specific videos I place on XviD get bugged for the first few seconds like this.
Needless to say, this is not how it should look like at all.
This seems to be about my computer rather than the software itself. Can anyone help me fix this?

Trouble posting to Youtube
I have a few videos that I'm trying to post to Youtube, but they are not going correctly. Actually a couple did, but the others did not. The ones that did not are posting double. In other words they are posting twice, one right after the other. When you play it back, it plays and then is followed by it playing again. So a 15 minute video is now 30 minutes long with the same thing playing twice. I have tried uploading with both my desktop and my laptop with the same results. The ones that went properly and the ones that didn't are all the same format, so I can't figure out what is going wrong. The first time I posted them they all went up double, so I deleted them. The second time I tried some went OK, but the rest didn't. I've tried different ways to to upload, but nothing seems to work. Any thoughts?

Are there any differences in quality between ripping apps?
I'm familiar with Handbrake (mac). But I've seen people bashing it, saying that MeGUI is better or that using command line tools, Avisynth and some other things I haven't heard of produces superior quality.
Is there any truth in that? Because for me it looks like the quality is determined by the x264 encoder, which is the same everywhere, right? Assuming the same x264 settings are used in all of them of course

I own a 3M CP45 with terrible software, I need compatible files!
Hi guys, I've owned this little pico projector, the 3M CP45 for 2 years now. I lost the software that came with it: Arcsoft Media Converter 3.1. The company does not support the software or even sell the software anymore. They stopped and offer no support for a patch, download or tech support. I can't convert my movies to a compatible format with Handbrake, AVIDemux, SUPER, or Media Converter 7 and 8. I also tried other programs, but it must be a secret flag in the mp4 to play correctly. Does anybody have this software for the projector or direct experience with it? I saw some discs on ebay, but they were bundled with a new/used one only.

HDPVR 2 TS to MP4 Sync Issues
Hello,
I'm trying to change my Hauppauge HDPVR2 recordings (.TS) to an MP4 container (without re-encoding, just so the video editors I use that don't support TS very well can open it). HDPVR2's own MP4 output seemed to be lower quality than TS. Unfortunately I always seem to end up with audio sync issues.
Things I've tried:
Copy with FFMPEG
ffmpeg -y -i "Test.ts" -i "Test.ts" -vcodec copy -acodec copy -f mp4 "Test.mp4"
Demuxing the TS and Remuxing as MP4 with FFMPEG using the following commands:
http://www.simonbrenner.org/Special_Blog?id=11
Saving it as an MP4 with AAC audio codec as this thread suggested:
http://askubuntu.com/a/171628
TS copy to MP4 with FFMPEG:
ffmpeg -f mpegts -i "Test.TS" -copyinkf -c:v copy -copyts -c:a copy -avoid_negative_ts 1 -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc -movflags faststart "Test.mp4"
With the last one the first few minutes seemed synced and I thought I'd cracked it but then the audio cut out completely. Also VLC incorrectly shows the length of the video as 4 hours instead of 50 minutes and won't scan through the video.
Thanks for any help.

XMedia Recode Problem with flv file
I use XMedia Recode for everything. Its ability to take original video files and put them into a different container first-generation, without any need for recoding or reprocessing, is extraordinarily helpful.
Is there another application that can do the same thing and that is user-friendly?
I ask because I've bumped into a seemingly unsolvable problem.
I've got this flv file with a frame rate of 25 frames a second.
Except that if I make what, supposedly, is a perfect copy to mp4, the mp4 copy's frame rate is screwed up, 20.something frames a second rather than 25 frames a second.
And when I bring the mp4 copy into my edit application, which is Premiere Elements, Premiere Elements plays back the file t-o-o s-l-o-w-l-y, because of the erroneous frame rate. Unfortunately it also sees the file with the CORRECT duration, which is 2:39:04.11. So, if I tell Premiere Elements to re-interpret the frame rate as being 25 frames a second, the duration gets screwed up.
Anyone encountered this problem before?
Is there some setting in XMedia Recode that will prevent this from happening?
Is there some other software, other than XMedia Recode, which any of you would recommend that is also capable of making lossless copies of flv files into mp4 and/or other kinds of containers??
Thanks, as always, to this community for its help!

Can I see PAL discs played on a computer that is connected to my TV?
I bought an entire set of a long-sought-after British TV series, only to get it home and find out that it is in PAL format. And to compound the problem, being a British series, the discs are Region 2. The discs play fine on my computer and monitor, but my computer room is not set up for comfortable TV watching.
I was fooled, I think, because I've never seen commercially manufactured PAL other-region discs for sale around here before today. I think the used-book store where I bought them probably also didn't realize what they were.
If I place a computer in the cabinet near the TV and connect them with an HDMI cable, will I be able to play these discs on the computer drive and watch them on my TV?
The TV is an LG LCD. Without pulling the TV out of the cabinet to look at the back, the model number is either 32LB9D or 47LCDF, according to the owner's manual. It's only a couple years old or so.
I understand that I can probably rip them and then reburn them, but I'm talking 23 seasons (although they are shorter British seasons)
worth of discs.
Worse comes to worst, I can take them back for a refund or store credit, but this is a hard to find TV series, and I want to keep them if I can figure out a way to view them.

DVD transcoding, MeGUI says "progressive", deinterlace vs. IVTC, confused
Hi,
I want to transcode a movie I have on DVD, it was originally a made-for-TV movie broadcast in France in 2006 (called "Des fleurs pour Algernon", based on the novel "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes, and seriously it's one of my favorite movies ever, maybe the one that moved me the most for very personal reasons -- in my opinion a much better take on that story than the 1968 USA movie "Charly" ; I might try to subtitle it afterwards so as to share it with the english speaking crowd -- it's a shame there are no subs on this DVD, not even HI ones, so I'll have to do it from scratch). It's a PAL DVD. MediaInfo reports it as interlaced (as is standard for any MPEG2 DVD, to my understanding -- or is it ?). DGIndex reports it as interlaced. But MeGUI's AVS Script Creator module, after its "analysis" is finished, reports the "source type" as "progressive", and disables the deinterlacing options. Yet it definitely looks like interlaced video, with the usual combing effect on fast moving scenes. Here's a sample (22MB, link available for 7 days) :
http://we.tl/Kb5upijFL1
Now, if I set the "source type" manually to "Interlaced" and choose Yadif as deinterlacer (which seems to be the next best thing after QTGMC), it removes the combing effect, yet there are still some jagged edges here and there. But if I choose "Source type : Film" and "TIVTC" (or Decomb IVTC, they look just the same), the picture no longer has those jagged edges and is generally much sharper and cleaner.
So, how does it work exactly, and what is the right way to deal with it ? (I read several threads before asking this, it only added to the confusion.) Why doesn't MeGUI report this as interlaced, and if it is indeed interlaced how come a proper deinterlacer gives an inferior result to "IVTC" (which I'm still struggling to find out what it does exactly except it's different from deinterlacing) ?
http://share.pho.to/9ZNpS
Otherwise, is there anything else I should do with such a source ? And, considering I have no special compatibility requirements this time (i.e. standalone devices), what settings would significantly improve the encoding efficiency ? (Ideally I would like to get a MKV file between 1GB and 1.5GB with the best possible quality, which should be manageable as it's a 1h34min movie with not much fast action, and the source is quite clean.)
Thanks.
