DV videos on Roku?

Hi.

I recently converted mini DV tapes to my hard drive using an iMovie (older version running on 2007 iMac).

I'd like to now watch these videos on my Roku. When I plug the drive into my Roku, however, it's not recognizing the .dv videos. Do I need to convert these videos?

Thanks.

Subtitle Edit - newbie overlap questions

Just started using SE and began by editing the srt file for the 2000 movie Frequency.

I've kinda got the hang of it but I'm puzzled by the red\orange highlighting on the overlap sections.

Not the color per se, but what causes the section to be highlit in the first place.

I've tried adding together the time that the line appears, to its duration, but the total doesn't exceed the appearance time of the next line.

So, what makes it an 'overlap'?

I've attached a typical image (Well, I think I did :-))

Converting MKV to MP4 Sync problem

Hi All,

I recently converted an 8GB MKV file to an MP4 file using VidCoder. I used the target size option to reduce the video to 1.8GB.
All went well and after 6 hours my new MP4 file was created. However, when I came to play it, I found that the sound was out of sync.

I am wondering whether I have all the setting correct. I converted to MP4 H264 with 30 FPS.The peak framerate box was checked with 2 pass encoding.

If that looks OK does anybody know why the sound would be out of sync?

Thanks.

I got started on video editing 2 years ago when I bought a cheap copy of Vegas Movie Studio Basic 13 for $25.
I just got a new PC and lost the old installation
Maybe I should get a new version anyway?
What do you suggest for basic editing?
Is there a cheap older version ? 13? 14? 15?

FFMPEG 720P to local Cable TV Channel Issue

Hi,
I have yet to find any solutions on the topic, as I guess most people simply aren't doing this, so iif you have any suggestions, please let me know your thoughts.

Running this off my Dell Server to South Central Cable TV channel 24/7 and there is a lot of flicker and hard to explain almost slow refreshing of video in various parts between frames? Footage is 1080p (CBR 15mbs) scaling to 720p (CBR see FFMPEG)

$ ffmpeg
-re
-i playlist1.txt
-s 1280x720
-b:v 12000k
-b:a 384k
-bufsize 24000k
-maxrate 12384k
-f mpegts "udp://225.254.1.XXX:XXX4?pkt_size=188&buffer_size=65535"

Also instead of converting the .mp4 from Davinci output through FFMPEG to MPEG2 TS, I am batching them to MPEG2.TS with XMedia Recode. Tried a bunch of settings, but that doesn't help. And of course the video looks great on local PC play. Obviously its on the transport end, and probably something that could be improved I am guessing on my FFMPEG command structure?

Ask any additional questions as needed, standing by...

Thanks!

inconsistant video seeking from OBS studio records

Just started using OBS Studio and whether I record in x264 or NVENC H.264 I can not get consistent seeking to work for the resultant videos. I've input keyframe intervals from 0(auto) and also 1 through 10 (seconds) in one second increments. The best result I've been able to produce is to have seeking (be it 2sec or 20sec) work instantly, as expected, for the first use but each subsequent use will take longer and longer for the seek to process. By the time I get to the 10min mark the recorded video will average 90sec to seek 2sec. If I have a 30min recording and attempt to jump directly to the 15min mark it could take as long as 5 minutes to resume. Makes no difference if it's a 10min or 1hour long 10Mbps or 20Mbps bitrate recording. It seems as if keyframes continually and gradually widen over the length of the video. Multiple viewers provide the same result.

I have thousands of videos I've either recorded myself using different software/hardware or downloaded from the internet and only a number countable on one hand have had poor seek performance, usually attributed to super wide keyframe intervals. With OBS, as noted, I've tried a myriad of keyframe values, additionally I attempted different FPS/B-frames/bitrates/resolutions/etc. I'd really like to continue use of OBS Studio so a solution would be greatly welcomed.

FPS Upscaling issue

I'm using twixtor v6 for AE 2014 to upscale a movie to 60fps, and I ran into an issue. Twixtor tries to interpolate the frames in between the clips of the movie (which aren't separated, its one mp4 file), which gives a weird morphing look (I can post an example if this isn't a great description). Is there a way to fix this by setting a motion threshold? This would be something to the effect of "When motion is more than X amount, opacity = 0%". I imagine this would only work with twixtor (as vanilla AE probably doesn't have a way to detect the amount of motion).

The reason I want to do this is so that I can avoid having to separate each individual clip in the movie. Does anyone have an idea of how to fix this?

Thanks!

Older VHS-C to MiniDV captures (issues during fast movement)

Hello,

I have an issue with DV footage and am not sure how to proceed.

The problem concerns VHS-C tapes that I recorded directly onto my MiniDV camera around 15 years ago. At the time I just used component input, but it still looks much better than the actual VHS-C footage at this point in time, so I'd like to work with it.

Unfortunately, during fast movements (mostly pans) the video glitches/destabilizes for a moment. It's even visible on the camera display (but as a sidenote: I transferred the tapes to dv1-files using dvgrab and the issue was retained).

Any idea what could cause this? Both cameras are PAL, so it's probably not a framerate difference. Maybe an internal image stabilizer on the MiniDV camera (though I wouldn't have thought that this would be turned on with external video input)?

If I can recover most of the original tapes, I played with the idea of using a few frames from them during affected sequences, but that might be a gigantic chore.

Video colors darken after export. Possible Solution?

Hello everyone,

so I got this problem where the rendered video always shows much darker than the material I've been working with.
I know there are a couple threads on this, but I've tried plenty things and to be frank I'm simply lost.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yg8ko-hIEfo

I wanted to implement this animation into my website. (That's the reason for the odd cropping.)
The plan was for the video to have the same background color as the site, so it can blend in seemlessly.

My original background color is HEX #f2f2f2 / R 242, G 242, B 242 / H 0, S 0, B 95
However the background color shown in any player seems to be HEX #e0e0e0 / R 224, G 224, B 224 / H 0, S 0, B 88
In the end there you see a couple test-frames of blank white, which also shows up darker as HEX #ebebeb / R 235, G 235, B235 / H 0, S 0, B 92
Oddly enough all the thumbnails and folder icons got the colors right.

I'm working with Premiere Pro, and After Effects CS6. Unfortunately I'm sorta lost on the technical stuff.
Any suggestions how I might get the look I want or something close to it? Any help is appreciated.

Seeya!

Question how to screen capture just part of window with OBS-Studio

$

With Debut free, this is very easy just by moving the cursors to the part of the window that you want to capture. But I couldn't figure out how to do that with OBS Studio. The tutorial says to just make the video full screen, and then capture the whole window, but I don't want to do that. I believe it takes more cpu power to play/ record the video in full screen, and I don't have much cpu power.

VSDC cutting/splitting slowed down video

I'm having an issue trying to edit a slowed down video. I have the entire video at 83% speed and I'm wanting to cut off the first 1:20 of the video. When I set the work area from 0:00-1:20, it shows me the correct image (in the preview pane) of where I'm wanting it to cut. However, the cut is actually being made at around the 1:35 mark. The only thing I can figure is that it's making the cut on the frame that would be at 1:20 if the video was played at 100% speed.

If I split the video at 1:20, the first segment will be fine, but the second one will be missing several seconds, again like it's starting me at the frame that would be there at 100% speed. Is there a setting I can change to make the cutting process work better on a slowed down video?

I'm using Windows 7 x64 and VSDC Free Version 6.3.3.968 (64 bit)
