IDE SSD's Rock!

Last month I ordered a 128 gig IDE ssd (shipped from China) Finally got it Tuesday, cloned drive from my (really) old Toshiba laptop. This made a HUGE difference in boot time (= 18 seconds = 360 total security) and the machine runs at least as fast as my newer machine. I am impressed. Plus its 4 times + larger than the original hdd (30 g).

I actually prefer the old one with its 4-3 screen over w/s's. Even more now. (Yah yah, I know, 4-3? XP home? 20th century caveman)

I bought on ebay this -> "128GB KingSpec 2.5-inch PATA/IDE SSD" 80 bucks, free shipping. Took a month to arrive tho, , ,

Free Animating Software

I'm looking simply, as the title suggests, for some free animation software, preferably with both the ability to draw within it, and to import images.
Preferably with an as simple learning curve as possible, I don't really need tonnes of features, just some stuff for nice, simple animations which I'll put on YouTube.
Oh and I'll emphasize, free, not just cheap, but free! I'm a secondary school student! I have a lot of other things to spend money on too!
BTW, I've not done much animating before, this is a fairly new field for me, so if you throw some real technical jargon, I may well have no idea what your talking about.

Building a new PC... plan on doing a lot of video editing.

I've been having some issues with my current pc... why trying to get things worked out I also realized I built it 6 years ago.
So, I'm thinking maybe its just time to start over.

I have 13 years of home video I plan on attacking finally ... also do a lot of ripping and reencoding with Handbrake.
May even think about the new Oculus Rift VR goggles which I believe require a lot of power.

I recently bought a 500gb SSD and a 6tb drive. I already have a 1200 watt power supply and a nice cab.
So... mobo, cpu, gpu, and ram...

I don't generally keep up on all this stuff when I"m not in the market... after minimal research I was considering these

ASUS ATX X99-Deluxe
Intel i7 5930 6 core 3.5GHz
Crucial Ballistix 32GB BLS4K8G4D240FSA
Geforce GTX 970 or 980 6GB

I figured this would be a good forum to ask for advice on this project... thoughts on the above or different?

Good streaming player?

So, I recently found out that the PS3 I've been using is basically a POS when it comes to being a media player. I'm looking for something that might be better. I at least want it to be able to handle efficient h.264 settings (the PS3 has trouble with b-pyramid), but if it would support h.265 that'd be even better. Having a remote is a must for me (none of that chromecast-esque crap where I have to use my phone as a remote). I stream using Plex, but I've gotten comfortable using the PS3's DLNA functionality. I don't use the actual Plex app with it, I basically choose what I want to watch from a list that pops up.

Hi Everyone,

Is it better to retain anamorphic flag from a DVD (720x576) or make it 767x576?

Also for NTSC DVD's is 640x480 really identical to 720x480 in terms of detail ?

mencoder -> mplayer

Hello,
I would like to encode with mencoder stream from my /dev/video0 camera and
send it directly to mplayer for immediate watching (or to any
other player => this is why I need to encode it with mencoder first)

I tried something like this:
$ mkfifo output.avi
$ mencoder tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=720:height=576:device=/dev/video0
-ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=900 -o output.avi -v -nosound
BUT this does not work
$ mplayer output.avi (this is how I wanted to play it)

When I save stream to normal file first, mencoder works ok - but file
is getting bigger and bigger, so this is not way to go for me (I need
to save it to something like fifo and then play it in realtime).
Any idea please how to put strem into fifo or pipe and then play it?

Vegas: Trim from start all video events on track

I have lots (1000+) of videos (with audio) placed on a timeline without edits (new project) in Vegas pro and need to cut (trim from start) all but last 30 seconds of each video event without moving (joining) them or re-rendering. Any simple way to do it?

Avidemux is giving me 5:4 instead of 16:9

Hi. I have a DVD (PAL 16:9 progressive) which needs no special filters, I just want to edit and compress it. As it's a concert, avidemux would be the ideal editor as I can hear the edit. Unfortunately, avidemux is giving me a 5:4 output. Any idea why this is and what I should do to get 16:9? See attached pic for more info. Thanks for your time.

Stuttering video after converting MP4 H.264 to VOB

For some reason, after I convert HD videos of MP4 format to DVD (VOB), the VOB videos appear stuttery/jittery (tried in WMP, MPC-HC, VLC etc.)
The original MP4 file plays super smooth in all my video players.
This ONLY happens when converting 1080p resolution files in MP4 format to VOB. When converting for example 1080p TS files to VOB, everything works fine.
What could I be doing wrong? I have been using TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works to convert, since it's fairly simple to understand.

Should I be renaming the output files created by MakeMKV?

So I have been testing out MakeMKV to turn DVDs (Video_TS/AUDIO_TS files) into MKV filkes to play through PLEX on my PS3. The output file names from MakeMKV are title0.mkv. They are in folders with the movie name. My question is, should I keep the default mkv name, or should I rename the title0.mkv to "moviename".mkv? Or does it even matter?

16:9 dvds convert to MKV have black side bars in PLEX?

I have some 16:9 dvds I converted to MKV using MakeMKV. The dvds play 100% fine from the from a dvd in my dvd player to my tv, but after ripping and and converting to MVK, when I play the files on my PS# using PLEX the video is not full screen, there are black bars on the sides of the screen? Why is this and can it be fixed?

i have some dvd .iso files i want to encode personally with filters
this is the method i found and i would like to know what you think

use a program called "DVD Decrypter" the rip a VOB video file from the dvd and then just encode it with Megui with the filters ...

any thing i might find i am doing wrong or is this way is fine?

Potplayer is good for streaming playlists from youtube. It will show the list of videos in the playlist by pressing f6. now i believe potplay can play urls from other sites, but I don't know which ones
smplayer through using mpv as it's multmedia engine can stream from many sites.
But it falls down in it's playlist option.
If I copy a playlist from say youtube.
It will play the videos in the playlist, but unlike potplayer, it won't display the names of the videos, except for the first one. I was told this is because the videos are really being played through mpv player.
