I have a .bat which I run to convert my videos using ffmpeg. It works fine for files on local drive however it fails to run for the videos on my nas.

Setup:
  • NAS has a folder with videos, ffmpeg.exe and .bat
  • Access folder via network drive on windows 7
  • When I run the batch file the command prompt briefly pops up then closes and nothing happens.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Problem getting a good video image after burning to DVD

I having a problem that I'm sure most people won't experience, but I'm hoping someone out there has, and is able to offer some suggestions on how to fix it. So here goes.

I shoot dance recitals, so I'm always trieing to give me clients the best videos posible. But when I recorded it my Sony NX5U in HD 720, and process it in FCP X, it looks good. I also output it from FCP as a master quick time movie, and on the desk top it still looks good. I then put it into compressor and burn it with DVD Studio pro, and thats when I loose the quality I had before.

When I play the dvd on the TV, everything looks good except for the faces on stage, I can't see them very well. It's kind of pixelly. I can't see the detail in the picture enough to tell one child from the next. Only on an extrem close-up can I tell one from another.

I've also tried burning with iDVD and I get the same result. I don't know if it's in the way i'm exprotting the video, or something else.

Thanks,

Hauppauge HVR-4000 VHS Video Capture

Hello all,
I'm trying to digitise and archive VHS tapes using my Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000 on Windows 10. After reading some posts in the forum, I decided to capture AVI using huffyuv lossless compression and yuv2 for archiving. Then I could encode the video into DVD or H264 for general viewing etc.

The problem is that I can't get VirtualDub or Virtual VCR to capture the video. It's as if the applications don't recognise the card. I have tried a test capture using a trial version of a commercial software that seemed to work but was very limited in terms of the capture options and will not allow me to specify the codec so I know the card and the drivers are working perfectly.

Is there any other software that I can try?

Thanks in advance

hi

i have since a short time the problem that some dvd+r have problems being read at the end of the disc

so as video files who written near the end of the disc but it are only small areas that have the problems

if you play the video file it stops at some point but if you move the time a few seconds then the files playes again
so it are points of unreadable and not the whole end of the disc

i use VSO to test the disc but it shows 3 sector points not being able to read but it gave 100% on surface of the disc

i am trying the figure out if my dvd writer needs to be replaced or if it are the dvd+r discs

the problem is that only some dvd+r have it and it are only small point near the end of the disc that are unreadable
thats weird

also i only use verbatim discs dvd+r and dvd+r dl and those disc are also good when you get near the end of the disc

also because not all disc have it and that it are only small points near the end of the disc if it is mine dvd writer

i would appreciate some help

AVStoDVD - HCenc crashes at beginning of encode

Hi there.

I've got a mkv-file that I wanted to convert to DVD with AVStoDVD. The file contains a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 video stream, that I wanted to reencode so it will fit on a regular DVD. But whenever I start, HCenc crashes right at the beginning.

I have a different mkv-file with an H.264 video stream and that one works just fine.

Any idea what could cause this?

Let me know if you need any more info.

Pressed DVD Discs seem to be thinner?

I have a DVD retail pressed and 2 copies of this DVD SET. I noticed one set has much much thinner discs....than the other. Is it possible the factory they came out of (probably the same) messed up on 1 set and made it THINNER in terms of the polycarbonate layer? It just seems odd but I can't tell.... They are legit from Amazon though. Some seem too similar to tell, and one in particular feels thicker.

Both sets have pressed stamper/hub codes. The thinner ones say "made in canada"

Converting PAL DVD to NTSC and retaining the subtitles

$

I got some great help here previously when I need to convert a PAL DVD for a friend. It was suggested that I use VOB2MPG and then run the resulting mpg file through AVStoDVD and let the latter do the PAL to NTSC conversion which worked great.

Recently, I purchased "The Saboteurs" which is a region 2 PAL DVD feature. I would like to convert it to an NTSC copy which I can pop in my DVD player. I ripped the PAL VIDEO_TS file successfully.

Again, I used VOB2MPG to get an mpg file (and that worked fine, combining the 3 episodes on the disc into a single mpg file). My problem comes in, in that the feature uses many subtitles because it's primarily an English feature, but takes place in other countries so there are English subtitles for the translations in those scenes. In looking at my mpg file, the subtitles didn't carry through so they weren't part of the original video. I can watch the ripped PAL DVD files using MPC-HC and get the subtitles, but it doesn't look like making a DVD from the mpg files will have any subtitles.

Is there a way (or a setting within those programs) that will preserve the subtitles when I make the conversion (or another conversion method which will keep the subtitles)?

Thanks.

Problem extracting Audio Tracks from MKV files

Hello

I have a "little" problem with MKVExtract GUI,I'm trying to extract audio tracks from MKV video files, but instead of naming the tracks with their actual names "e.g. English;Spanish;Italian;etc" it extract the tracks with names like:
Container _track2_und.mp3
Container _track3_und.mp3
etc.

I have video files with like 6-7 audio streams each and its getting really messy this way.

I opened the files with MKVTool Nix and all the track's names are correctly named(as above).

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Capture options: VHS to digital using DVD/VCR combo (dvd-VR355) and GT 630

Trying to capture/backup old family VHS tapes to digital format. Picked up a Samsung combo player (DVD-VR355), originally just looking for s-vhs output. I had planned to capture using Pinnacle Studio 19 and the Pinnacle capture device (Dazzle dvd recorder- composite and s-video inputs to usb). I have a rig with a Geforce GT 630, an i5 processor and 16gb of DDR4 ram. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the Samsung DVD VR355 not only could record straight to DVD (easier but likely less desirable quality/finished product), but, also claims to be able to output the VHS signal via HDMI!!! that may be old news for many of you, but any of the non pro units I've found that had the hdmi output also had a small note stating that hdmi output not available for vhs, only for dvd playback. If I read correctly, it also claims to "upscale" the vhs as well as the dvd. A rarity i've never seen. So, my question is this. Is their a way with my existing equipment, to capture the vhs output from the samsung unit via HDMi to my PC rig? The dazzle capture unit only has the standard def inputs and s-video, no hdmi input) My gt 630 gfx card is powerful enough for what I push at it, but i've never tried to capture an hdmi signal, not would I have any idea how to do so. Any ideas or suggestions? If there is a way to do this, seems like a waste to voluntarily step down to s-video output when you have a hardware solution to output the signal. If the resolution could be higher that 720x480 recording directly to dvd within the unit, I might consider it, but I also miss out on all the possible enhancement and filters that may help

Can't capture signal from JVC HR-S9911U VHS deck into Hauppage capture card

$

I wanted to transfer some old VHS tapes to my PC for DVD burning. I tried capturing them from a cheap 4 head VCR deck I own, but the tapes are old and the results were poor. The video transfers were very "shaky" vertically and there were problems with severe color bleeding. So I bought a used higher end JVC S-VHS deck, especially since it came with TBC (time-base correction) and the JVC DigiPure image enhancement technology. The deck I got was the S-VHS capable JVC HR-S9911U. Here's a link to the user manual in PDF format:

http://resources.jvc.com/Resources/00/00/97/82931ien.pdf

The capture card is an older Hauppauge model that has worked fine for years with my cheap 4-head VCR player and still does.

Unfortunately, no matter what settings configuration I try on my WinTV capture card for input channel configuration (NTSC, PAL, SECAM, every variation of configuration parameters with each of those major format, etc.), I can't get a valid picture or audio signal from the JVC deck. Instead what I see in those configurations that do show at least something on the WinTV recorder software monitor window (instead of just black), is a repeating pattern of orderly shapes that if I was forced to describe, look like "morse code". Note, I also did try every different reasonable setting on the JVC deck, and all the RCA jack compatible outputs on the back of it. No luck.

I am trying to figure out how to solve this and I'm wondering:

- Does the JVC put out a digital signal instead of an analog one, perhaps one my WinTV capture card can't cope with and that's the real problem?
- Or is the deck just broken?

I bought it used from a third party and they said they plugged it into their TV and saw a healthy picture.

Need some help about avidemux

Hi. I messed up something and need your help.

I had an long mkv file (avc1 codec) and cut it into a small file using Avidemux without re-encoding it. (copy option)
I played the small video file later and found out that I accidentally chose the wrong muxer.
I didn't changed the muxer option to mkv muxer, so the file was saved using the default opion, avi muxer instead.
As a result, fps of the video is totally messed up.

The problem is , I already deleted the original file, so I can't re-do the cutting process again.
I can load the avi-muxed mkv file into avidemux, save it again using mkv muxer, but fps is still messed up.
Is there any way I can fix it up?

This is what the install folder contains:

DK4BIT.ACM
DKAVIFIX.EXE
INSTALL.EXE
DUCK.INI
DUCK.HLP
DUCK.DRV
CODUCK.DLL

after running the installer it creates a dir in c:\DUCK containing:
DK4BIT.ACM
DUCK.HLP
DUCK.INI

I'm running Windows 98

Nothing appears under external encoders in Virtualdub and i'm clueless as what to do, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Edit @ topic, it's a Encoder, not a Codec.

Canopus ADVC-300 and other TBCs to die for

$

Hi folks,

There's been a lot of talk here about VCR TBCs, internal/external or otherwise. I've compared many pro and semi-pro TBCs to see how they cope with old, less-than-perfect video tapes. Every TBC seems to be something of its own animal when it comes to correcting VCR PB signal riddled with dropouts. Canopus ADVC-300, for instance, does a wonderful job correcting time-base errors -- if the signal is clean! On a good day, Canopus can measurably reduce video jitter by a factor of over 1000.

However, with even medium-sized tape dropouts, the ADVC-300 suddenly gets confused. I'm posting here a comparison picture of a video frame captured with Canopus and without any TBC. This dropout isn't too large to begin with as the deck's DOC circuit can mask it almost completely. Canopus, however, doesn't take kindly to that dropout, and replaces it with a large jitter spike that messes up about 6 or 7 lines of that frame, and, of course, a lot of others, too.

Cheers,

LeoB

Ps. At http://www.digiommel.fi/ you'll find a series of tech docs and videos pertaining to audio/video tape restoration (in English). I'll soon be posting three interesting docs about VCR signal quality measurements, comparison of dropout masking ability of various VHS decks, and one that compares color signal quality of Beta, DV, VHS, Video2000, Video8/Hi8 and U-matic VCRs.
