New To Ripping Blu-rays

$

Hi! I recently decided I wanted to support the entertainment industry a bit, and stop pirating my stuff by buying blurays.

I want to rip my blurays, then store them in an external hard drive, and I wish to maintain 100% quality and audio(all original data such as bitrate). Please help and give me guidance with this. I'm a noobie who know nothing about ripping blurays.

Here are some other details:

-I want to rip blurays into MP4. MP4, specifically, because they're playable on more devices than MKV.
-Which one is better, BD25 or BD50 if I'm going for 100% video quality and audio?
-What software is the best for my needs?

I looked a leawo, but I'm not sure right now. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you! If you need me to fill in more details, please ask below. :D

How does RTMP manage the buffer

I am trying to stream from Simple RTMP Server (SRS) using ffmpeg. I saw there is an option in ffmpeg to specify the rtmp client buffer size, which will be passed to the server when the connection is made. I am interested to know how the client buffer will be used. Does rtmp server always transmit video data at real-time rate, or push the video data as fast as possible until the client buffer is filled up? I want to know if I can maintain a smooth playback even when the connection is intermittent.

Does the RTMP spec specify the default buffer sizes? Or is it implementation specific?

VCD Sample disc image?

Does somebody have some VCD Sample disc image (stored in cue/bin files, or some other common disc image format)? I've been looking for that VCD sample images for the past 2 years, but it seems to be impossible to find any VCD images in the internet. Just some small sample with 2-3 tracks and a few minutes playtime would be nice. The content doesn't really matter, some shortfilm, webcam recording, or holiday movie, or trailer, or music video, etc. (preferably with legal/free content). Or if somebody has different sample for PAL/NTSC, or for additional variants like SVCD/KVCD would be nice, too. But I would be glad to just to find any simple basic VCD sample, as long as it's actually compatible with standard VCD players.

All I could find are broken links like this:
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/15905-New-version-of-the-PAL-NTSC-Demo-VCD - broken link
https://www.videohelp.com/vcd.htm#sample - contains only VCD screenshots (JPG files), no actual movies
https://www.slashcam.de/info/kostenlose-Downloads-cooler-DV-Kurzfilme----53560.html - seems to have had VCDs (but now has MP4's only)

Asking because I am interested in the VCD format, and I would like to try to write some VCD software decoder - but that's difficult without even having a VCD disc/image to work on.

Significance of UDF version like for DVD RW and AVCHD?

In Windows 7 I see v2.01 and v2.50 and some others.

Are DVD RW preformatted usually - or do you format initially if wanting AVCHD compliance?
Windows keep destroying my discs, now over 20 or so.

Seems like having trouble handling AVCHD on a DVD writer.

Seem to work first time when no AVCHD are on them, but then start to take ages to move forward like even init and be ready.
Windows acknowledge and show BD symbol on disc when it sees AVCHD in there - and it succeds.
Trying to use a destroyed disc on a XP machine DVD it does not recognize it at all - read something about some drivers needed for that.

Is this to do with UDF formatting?
Taking properties it just says UDF, not which version.

Evaluating Premiere Elements 15 I need to use discs since only removable format supported.
Other editors like PowerDirector and Nero Video also burn AVCHD to usb or SD cards.

Thanks for any input on the matter....

Join videos without reencoding!

I tried in every way but without success, a way to JOIN the video without having to convert, but it takes a long time, and especially while joining two videos, I
can not get a unique converted movie and always remains the same as before file, and I've tried all the software that do not work with DIRECT STREAM COPY mode and here's the list of the recommended software never worked:

-VIRTUALDUB
-XMEDIA RECODE
-VIDEO TO VIDEO CONVERTER
-MPEGSTREAMCLIP
-FORMAT FACTORY
-AVIDEMUX
-VIDCODER
-MP4TOOLS / MP4JOINER
-MY MP4BOX GUI
-TENCODER

In short, this is the list of programs that have not worked with 2 videos. Now since you are responsible, except programs to shareware, what better coder without conversion exists and is able to convert the videos to 1080p60 for good, without re-encoding? Thank you.

how do I determine the right volume for capturing

$

I use a USB capture card, and CyberLink PowerDirector, to capture video. The capture card is connected to a TV through three RCA cables (one yellow, one white, and one red), and to a laptop which has Windows 10 on it. There is a volume slider in PowerDirector. There is a volume slider in Windows 10 in system tray. The TV has volume plus and volume minus buttons.

In PowerDirector, I will set audio to MP2 at 256 kbps. After capturing, I don't want to put the audio in an audio editor and normalize it, or increase or decrease the number of dB. I want to leave the audio untouched. But this means that, before the capture process is initiated, the volume must be normal, not too low, and not too loud.

What volumes do you recommend for the TV, for Windows 10, and for PowerDirector? Should I set all three to 50%? Or is there a better way to determine all three volumes? Is connecting a pair of headphones to the laptop, to monitor the volume, a good solution? Because I noticed that a pair of headphones sounds too loud when volume is set to above 20%, but another pair of headphones doesn't sound too loud at 30% volume...

CropResizeBorder script

$
0
0
I pieced together a new function to compliment my previous CropResize script, only it's aimed more towards adding borders to achieve a particular output resolution. As the name says, it auto-crops, resizes and then adds borders if required. Once again it keeps any aspect error to as close to zero as possible by cropping if need be to achieve a desired aspect ratio. For anyone who'd care to give it a test drive.....

CropResizeBorder(OutWidth=Width, OutHeight=0, CL=0, CT=0, CR=0, CB=0, Cthresh=30, Cstart=0, Csample=5, PicDAR=0.0, Mod=4, InDAR=0.0, Cpreview=0, Fsize=25)

The script has two modes which makes some of the settings a little schizophrenic. If you don't specify an output height the script operates in "crop only" mode. The height is determined by OutWidth and the aspect ratio after cropping, or by the PicDAR & Mod options.

When both OutWidth and OutHeight are specified, the script operates in "Add Borders" mode. The "PicDAR" and "Mod" settings effect the picture before any borders are added. Normally you'd probably just autocrop and let the script add any borders as required, but PicDAR can be used to crop the picture to a specified aspect ratio before the borders are added.

A few examples:

The source is a 4:3 DVD (using an mpeg4 InDAR of 15/11 rather than exactly 4:3).
OutWidth is set to 640, PicDAR crops the source to 4:3 and the output will be 640x480.
As output width and height weren't both specified, no borders are added. Cpreview=2 overlays the resizing and border information on the video.

CropResizeBorder(640, 0, InDAR=15.0/11.0, PicDAR=4.0/3.0, Cpreview=2)

The same source. This time a width and height of 960 and 540 are specified but the other settings remain the same. The "PicDAR" setting (if specified) determines the "Picture Width". The "Picture Width" is also determined by the "Mod" setting.

CropResizeBorder(960, 540, InDAR=15.0/11.0, PicDAR=4.0/3.0, Cpreview=2)

As a demonstration, width and height are specified for a 4:3 aspect ratio (720x540), and "PicDar" is changed to 16.0/9.0 to simulate working with a 16:9 source. In this case the script will happily crop the picture to 16:9 and add black bars top and bottom for a 4:3 aspect ratio. The "PicDAR" setting (if specified) determines the "Picture Height". The "Picture Height" is also determined by the "Mod" setting.

CropResizeBorder(720, 540, InDAR=15.0/11.0, PicDAR=16.0/9.0, Cpreview=2)

For the Mod setting, values of 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 are allowed. The default is mod4 but it can be changed for those fussed about the mod of any black borders. The Mod setting has no effect on the output resolution in "Add Borders" mode, but it does effect the "picture width" when borders are being added to the sides, or "picture height" when borders are being added top and bottom. Hence the reason for Mod32 being an option.

For example... if you specify a mod32 "output width" yourself (ie 960 in this case), and if the Mod setting is mod32, any borders added should be mod16 and the picture itself should be mod16. Likewise if Mod=16 and you make sure to specify a mod16 "output width", any borders should be mod8. Compare the following pic to screenshot 2 with the default of mod4.

CropResizeBorder(960, 540, InDAR=15.0/11.0, PicDAR=4.0/3.0, Mod=32, CPreview=2)

Compared to the above screenshot, the following shows how the PicDAR setting could be used to adjust the width (or height) of the picture a little and reduce the black borders (the mod setting still has the final say), in this case at the expense of a little extra picture being cropped from the top and bottom so as not to distort it.

CropResizeBorder(960, 540, InDAR=15.0/11.0, PicDAR=736.0/540.0, Mod=32, CPreview=2)

Mostly, I'd just be using the script like this and let it take care of the rest because I'm not so fussed about the border/picture width. I'd just want to crop and add borders as required.
CropResizeBorder(960, 540, InDAR=15.0/11.0)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The options:

OutWidth (default, source width)
Output width of video. If zero or not specified the same width as the source video is used.
OutHeight (default, 0)
Output height of video. Has no effect unless OutWidth is greater than zero. If both OutWidth and OutHeight are specified the script "adds borders" to the output as required to achieve the desired output resolution..
CL, CT, CR, & CB (defaults, 0)
Cropping in addition to the auto-cropping. Left, Top, Right, Bottom. Positive values increase the auto-cropping. Negative values reduce it.
Cthresh (default, 30)
How enthusiastically autocrop crops. Cthresh=0 should disable auto-cropping. Range 0-255.
Cstart (default, 0)
The first frame checked for auto-cropping.
Csample (default, 5)
The number of frames autocrop checks.
PicDAR (default, determined by auto-cropping)
Must be float (ie 1.777778 or 16.0/9.0 etc). More than six decimal places is probably pointless.
If OutHeight is not specified, OutWidth & PicDAR determine the output height. No borders are added.
If both OutWidth & OutHeight are specified, PicDAR can be used to specify the display aspect ratio of the picture before the borders are added.
Mod (default, 4)
When no borders are being added (no output height specified) the mod setting has final say over the output height (after PicDAR) ie mod4, mod8, mod16 etc.
When left and right borders are added, the mod setting has final say over the width of the picture itself (excluding borders).
When top and bottom borders are added, the mod setting has final say over the height of the picture itself (excluding borders).
InDAR (default, same as source resolution) Required for correct resizing of anamorphic sources.
The Input Display Aspect Ratio. Must be float (ie 1.777778 or 16.0/9.0 etc). If InDAR is not specified the source is assumed to have square pixels. More than six decimal places is probably pointless.
Cpreview (default, 0)
Cpreview=0. Normal mode.
Cpreview=1. Displays the autocrop cropping information over the source video. Nothing is cropped. Nothing is resized. No borders are added.
Cpreview=2. Displays the normal output with info overlayed showing the width and height of the picture, total width and height and size of any added borders.
Fsize (default, 25)
Changes the font size for Cpreview=2.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not sure it's 100% perfect yet, so please report any problems if you try it. The zip file includes autocrop.dll

I have new burner since 2 weeks. Very strange way of burning. Kind of sinusoidal wave burning but only from beginning but discs are ok after burning and during copy.

Problem is i have problem with burning BDRE 50Gb Verbatim with speed higher than 0.9x . Do i need to change something in IMG BURN? or maybe new format of that disc? With 0.9x this is almost 3h burning 45GB ISO file.

How to fix DVDStyler error

$

Hi there.

I am a complete newbie to DVD authoring, and I am using DVDStyler. I have created it the way I want it, but when I go to make an iso, it fails on the second menu with an error about simplifying a subtitle. I don't actually have any subtitles for the videos, but I did read on someone else's post that a 'subtitle' could also mean text, and if the text is too long it could be a problem. However, I experimented with putting the same text on the first menu, but I made it even longer text, but it still managed to pass the 1st menu, before stopping in the same spot on the 2nd menu again.

Here is the code that it shows when I try to create the iso.

On my second menu page, I have buttons for 7 videos (each between 10 and 20 mins long), and I have a 'play all' button and a 'main menu' button, so there are nine buttons total. I also made the titles below each thumbnail a button with the same link to the videos as it's counterpart thumbnail. I wonder if that is just too much information for it to process. Do you think it would work if I made all the text just text rather than buttons?

I would really aprreciate it if anyone can shed some light on this. Please bear in mind my lack of technical skills, as I might not know some of the terms others are familiar with on this forum. Thank you.

Seamlessly split/join frames

Hi everyone,

This seems like such a basic video editing question, but I've searched the ends of the earth trying to find the answer... all I found were college papers, patent applications, and code programming - none of which was helpful. So I turn to you:

Suppose I have a video, 10 minutes long. I want to shorten it to 2 minutes, but create the illusion that it has not been edited.
I have a key frame around the 1 minute mark, and very similar frames at the 9 minute mark. Without using Avisynth scripts (I failed at those) - are there any editing programs that can take my first keyframe (with or without a threshold), analyze the entire video, and highlight the most similar frames elsewhere in the clip? I'd prefer a program with this feature included in the GUI; or even one that accepts virtualdub plug-ins (ie, VideoPad Editor).

It's become frustrating to try and match up similar frames manually, when there has to be a program that does it with ease...
File type is moot, because I can convert it to anything necessary beforehand if needed.

Any help would be great! Thanks in advance...

Is H.264 a good format to convert VHS to?

I am trying to archive home movies on VHS.

I recently contacted a service called Rafik. They use H.264, and then make a BluRay or DVD copy as well.

Is this a good format/way to archive my VHS? And should I go with BluRay or DVD for the second copy?

Splitting mp4 video by size

Hi,

I have a 2.2GB mp4 video that I need to upload to a site with a 500MB file size limitation. I know that to reduce 2.2GB to 500MB is not possible so I am looking at splitting it up.

I used MyMP4BoxGUI and managed to split the video into 5 files (each slightly less than 500MB).

Is there a way to do this in less than 5 files? I have :

1) used Handbrake to convert to iPhone format, reducing the 2.2GB file to about 870MB
2) used MyMP4BoxGUI to split to 2 files successfully

BUT I was not able to play the first file (Windows Media player error about format issues) while the 2nd file played ok. The "original" 870MB file played ok also.

Is there a "correct" way to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Jerky 3D blu Ray in Potplayer

Hi all, I'm seeing jerky playback of 3d bluray isos in Potplayer. Regular videos play fine. I have an i5 3300, a Geforce GTX 1060 with 6GB and should be able to play them just fine. I'm using Potplayer with LAV filters and MadVR configuration. I've set the DXVA2 hardware encoder in LAV. Any ideas on what it could be?

When I'm playing the jerky blu ray, if I open up GPU-Z, I do see that gpu load is at 98-99%.

Thanks!

For a video I am creating in Shotcut, I want to have a glowing effect on the 2nd song I highlighted with an oval in this picture:

I plan to only have it for something like a 3 second clip and during it I would love to have it mimic this button glowing:

I'm open to other programs obviously since it can't be done in shotcut. Also, the text must be visible even during the peak of the glow.
any advice?

How to Add Audio to multiple files at once ?

Hey guys,

Im new to this forum so be nice to me ;)

I have the following problem. I have many video files like 500 (Mp4) and a specific audio track (wav).

Now i want all video files to have that audio track. I have several programs where i can do this one by one, but this would take years.

So is there a solution to batch encode this ? Video must be direct stream copy, audio encode is not so important.

I researched alot for a solution but wasnt able to find one.

Would be really great if anyone could help me here!

AVCHDCoder decoder test fails after latest update Windows 10

$

Hi,

Until recently I was perfectly happy being able to decode/transcode blu-ray material using AVCHDCoder 15.12.27 on my Windows 10 (32-bit) machine.

But after a recent Windows 10 update encoding video using AVCHDCoder failes.

I used the encoder test and found out that encoding H264 and MPEG2 material failes. I have made no changes to any setting in AVCHDCoder, so to me it seems that the problem was caused by something that was changed on the computer by the update that was installed (and forced me to reboot after installation of the update).

I think it's this update:
KB3150513: Update for Windows 10 Version 1607

I have found no information yet about a possible cause of the decoding failure related to this update.

Do any of you have the same issue/problem?
And if so, have you found a solution or workaround?

Thanks.

JVC VCR Repair Service 7000 & 9000 Series & Professional Line

Many of you know me around here for all my posts about repairing and fixing Panasonic AG 1980 units.

Starting a new service up for the community which is repairing your broken down JVC decks that are sitting around doing nothing.

The good news, unlike the AG 1980 Machines they don't need to undergo a complete overhaul of repairs. Which means the costs are a lot less.

In some cases the JVC decks will out perform the AG 1980 unit.

Ghosting Issues the 9000 series, 100% better
Overall it depends on the tape per say

Since 2007, have always used top of the line JVC decks and AG decks for my VHS work, need both.

Been doing VHS to Digital for 10 years now, found that the play back of the machine is the most important part.

Because VHS is a limited format, need and want the best possible picture quality, that is why we recommend only using the Best VCR's. The rest you are wasting your time and energy on.

For example the JVC HR-S4500U is not a bad VCR but vs the 7800 model; not in the same class.

If both units are broken, they really have no value.

Just repaired a bunch of broken 9900's, two 9800's and a few of the SR-V series. Know how to fix these VCR's.

Here are some of the common problems

Tapes don't load or get stuck in the VCR
Tapes loads than the VCR cuts out
Tapes loads and you get a blue screen and will not play the tapes

In every case the VCR does not work, you trash it or put it away in storage.

Some of the repairs on these can be complex normally that is not the case.

Costs $50 to $150 in repairs. On problem units it can be $250 to $350.

If you are interested in this service please PM my account, no cost to look at your machine.
Without looking at the VCR can't give a full diagnostic.

All payments done via paypal.
You pay shipping both ways.

One Last thing of note:
The DVD recorders or the combo units, JVC MV1, MV5, MV7, MS1, MS100 and the rest of them with the dreaded "Loading" error can sometimes repair, they are hit or miss, but if I can't fix it you don't pay a dime.
