Convert dolby digital 2-6ch to WAV 2ch. Can it be done easier?

$

Hello,

When I want to convert the audio from a DVD I use the free software DVD2AVI. Like the name suggests it converts VOP-files into AVIs. For video convertion I don't find it relevant, because VirtualDub (including the necessary plugin) can do the job as well and with VirtualDub you can de-interlace, cut out the black borders and improve the image quality.

The reason I use DVD2AVI is because of it's audio convertion. I don't know exactly what dolby digital means. But for example when I watch a documentairy with Sir David Attenborough as narrator ambient- and background sounds and soundtracks will degrease in volume when he starts to speak. If you can explain me how Dolby Digital sound is constructed and what it does compared to a regular LPCM signal I will be very interested.

In DVD2AVI you have 4 options about this:

Image
[Attachment 42401 - Click to enlarge]

Dynamic Range Control being set to "Off" is the best for music DVDs, however regularly that will cause clipping because the volume gains too loud. You can prevent clipping by switching the Normalisation-option on. After selected the right settings but before running the operation you have to run a Pre-Scale Decision. (By Dolby Digital and DTS you always have to do that.) In most cases the Pre-Scale Decision will last for quite a short time, though it will give a better audio quality. You can convert the samplerate from 48000 to 44100. By setting the convertion-option to UltraHigh the sound quality is the best and the audio track remains synchronized with the videotrack.

For movies the Dynamic Range Control being set to "Off" causes soundtracks and ambient sounds being too dominant. In the included TXT-file it is said the best option for movies is the DRC being set to "Normal". However personally I always try if the option "Light" is sufficient.

In case of Dolby Surround select the option Dolby Surround Downmix.

Despite the option in the menu File > Process WAV I cannot manage to extract a WAV-file only. To obtain a file of the audio you have to convert the video as well. For that I use the crop-option to make the image size as small as possible and for convertion I select a fast lossless codec. DVD2AVI splits the videotrack and audiotrack in two separate files. After the operation I remove the videotrack.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will get a good quality audio-track, however using DVD2AVI only for this makes it quite complicated, because I also need to do the video-editing as well.
What are the options to do this more easily and remain control about the dynamic range?
Samsung DVD-R155 will not tune TV stations
The TV antenna cable goes first to my dvd recorder and then to the tv, and the tv receives stations ok. Yet when I run set up to auto find channels, the recorder finds nothing! I've reset the recorder to factory settings, reloaded the firmware, and tried connecting it to my tv by HDMI or composite video cables - still it cannot find or set up tv stations. The manual for my DVD-R155 XEU says to expect to have to choose which European tv system will be scanned, before scanning starts. However I am not offered this option. In other respects the recorder seems to play back and record ok from various inputs.
What's wrong? What should I do?
super 8mm transfer
Sorry if this information is found somewhere. I didn't see it answered, and Googling gives conflicting information.
I can't seem to find a consensus on this. My parents have old Super 8mm film that they want professionally transferred and restored, and I was wondering what sort of resolution to expect from them? Is it worth getting it transferred to HD? What about 2k? I'd like to get the most out of them, but don't want to waste paying for higher resolutions if there's no benefit.
Anything else I should look out for?
MP4 Playback / Flash drive problems
Hi, I wonder if any of you can advise. I recently used Sony Veg Pro to edit short movies with music tracks (7-10mins) & burn to DVD in a short space of time (normally aprox 15mins from start to the finished. rendered DVD (the rendering and burning of the DVD normally took around 4-5mins)), the emphasis being on the speed. Recently I changed from DVD to memory sticks using MP4 format as it allowed for higher resolution (1080p). However, the rendering time on Vegas was excruciatingly slow (25-30mins at best, sometimes longer). To this end I have tried various other editing software such as Power Director, Adobe Premiere Elements etc. These programs do render very quickly but the editing screen and overall ease of use was nowhere near to the standard of Vegas. An example is that the music track on the timeline is either very small (so you cannot make out the various parts of the song, or it was very large and could not be seen in the same screen as the movie track (which makes it extremely difficult to cue part of a music track with a particular part of the movie. Additionally, any movement (left or right) of the music track would throw the start of the song back to centre of the screen. Despite trying to work through these problems I found many other difficulties, such as difficulties overlapping movie clips or songs, and just cannot find another system like Vegas. Does anyone have any ideas on this?
At present I am using Movavi, which is based on IMovie (without the need to render video footage before editing it). On the face of it, it is quite a good editing program but it is very flawed and I have found serious problems with it:
1. There are only three options to render to Mp4: Good, High or Highest. Good seems to downscale the footage and High seems to upscale the footage. (I record on the Sony X3000 (MP4 1080p, 50fps). My point here is that there is no option to render it at the same quality as it is recorded in - which then causes juddering problems when played back.
2. Again, playback - Rendered using any of the MP4 formats, when played on a PC it is fine. However, played on a TV the music and audio seems to largely play out of sequence.
3. I use the MP4 format as I believe this to be the most standardised / generalised / playable format which will play on most TV's and media players, which I ideally need it to be able to do. Any advice on this too would be very much appreciated as I am finding the transition from DVD to Flash Drive a bit of a minefield thus far.
Thanks very much in advance
For AVISynth, I always get crashes whenever I try to use it now. I don't know how that happened.
Audiodub
FFMPEGSource2
FFMS2
FFMS2_FFMS2
FFMS2_FFMPEGSource2
I think these are the only options I have, and and I'm having a hard time trying to find the right combo. Is there anything on that list that I am missing that maybe I don't know about?
Best way to edit VOB files without massive data loss/compression
$
I have files ripped from a DVD that I need to make lots of edits on and re-burn to DVD without ending up with a massively compressed mess. What's the best way to go about this and retain as much original image quality as possible? It's a scan of a silent film print, so I'll need to edit the video and then add the audio track separately; it's already in DVD file format and ready to be demuxed from the overly compressed mess that my friend already attempted and remuxed to this new attempt.
My friend's original attempt resulted in a final .avi file size of 1.75 GB; the original combined size of the VOB files was 3.82 GB. A brutal chunk of data loss, resulting in a barely watchable mess.
Thank you in advance for your help!
Quality destroyed after using handbrake
Hello all,
I am a new youtuber, so I am still learning video editing. Please ignore my mistakes as a newbie.
Recently I shot 2 videos with my Phone in Full HD and then played them in VLC after transferring to the PC. Everything looked fine until I started editing the video in Adobe Premiere Pro because the video and audio were not in sync. I played the video again in VLC, it played fine.
So, I quickly searched online and found that handbrake is the solution to go. I also followed the instructions in which they said that all I need to do is check "Constant Framerate" and export to get it done. I did the same and it fixed the video.
But, while editing again I found that the audio and video quality are badly affected. Especially the audio became worse. I am not able to find a right method to fix the issue which I am facing while keeping the quality intact or at-least good enough to post on youtube.
I am really looking forward to some help. Thanks in advance... :)
what's the most powerful notebook to do encoding/editing in the world?
$
Hi please be simple (I'm a c*t)
my notebook pc is too slow to do encoding using x264
I have a HP envy J113EL and to do encoding it do 22/23 fps to do encoding in medium/high quality using ffmpeg/x264.
I wonder what is the most powerfull sistem at today to improove encoding speed so that I don't have to wait too much to encoding.
And I specify: I'm not satisfact of QSVenc and NVenc, theyr quality is not comparable with X264. They don't have all option set of X264 and at the best quality of QSV and NVEnc they runs @ 40/50 fps and the quality is not jet comparable to the x264.
So what is the powerfull processor/system that can encode at least at 3/4x my actual speed encoding?
thanks
Bitrate of HDTV set-top box signals for FULL HD broadcasts
My set-top box is Tatasky HD which is set to 1080i/60 Hz. Tatasky HD uses MPEG 4 for broadcasts. I want to capture video using Avermedia CV710 U3 and OBS Studio at best possible/passthru quality(Space is not a constraint) but at the same time I do not want to unnecessarily inflate the bit-rate and size. For that i need an estimate of current bitrate of video broadcasts. Also what CRF setting i should use to get pass-through. My CV710 proprietary software's max capablity is 1080p/30 FPS.
Also the input signal is Interlaced at 1080i/60 HZ which i understand to be 1080i /60 Fields per second(NOT Frames Per Second). Am i right ?Alo i crop the balck bars on OBS Studio scene from 1920x1080 to 1920x816 to remove black bars and then stretch it to full screen 1920x1080. Please suggest me the OBS Studio settings for pass-thru quality without UNECESSARILY INFLATING the bitrate.
color correction for white balance wrong?
Hi but please be simple (I'm a c*t)
I'm looking for a simple way to correct my wrong footage with wrong color white balance, using avisynth? or ffmpeg? or (better) virtualdub.
If possibile I should need a list of 2/3 preset that correct the white balance with some practical purpose for more cold or more warm.
For example:
my footage have the camera set to 4.000 k but the real situation have 8/9.000 K so image is too cold --> if there is 2/3 preset that let me view image, without intervening with complex parameters, and choice the one that is more suitable.
Is there a way? thanks
Having trouble converting MKV to MP4
I am using Leawo Professional Media and when I convert MKV to Mp4 it works fine, but I have noticed that the video is brighter than the original MKV file. While it looks ok, I would much rather have the video remain the same. I know that MP4 is lower quality than MKV, but how do I fix it to look at least similar to MKV? I am not the best video converter out there, so I would appreciate some help. I'll post my settings within Leawo below. Thank you.
Video: Normal (I have converted with the Best setting and have seen no change)
Video Codec: MPEG4
Resolution: Original
Bit Rate (KBPS): Smart Match
Frame Rate: Original
Aspect Ratio: Original
Audio: Normal
Audio Codec: AAC
Bit Rate: 128
Sample Rate (Hz): 44100
Channel: Stereo
Basically my settings are all default. I have not played around with the settings to see if I see a difference, but I am not so sure I would find a difference.
Thank you for your help.
PCi-e S-Video device for SVHS-C, or riser PCi adapter
$
I've read a lot on here, but this is my sole target.
The best card I ever used was a MSi Tv@nywhere, the non-plus version without a tuner and 10bit ADC. Obviously the captures were 8bit, but the S-video was the cleanest out of all the sub $300 devices... too bad it's PCi (without the 'e').
Any sub $400 pci-e suggestions? Or should I chance it with a pcie to pci riser adapter for the old MSi?
FREE converter WEBM to MPG, MP4, etc.?
$
The only program I've seen convert WEMB to something useful is VLC Media Player, and it does the job poorly.
I've looked for a while now, but have only found overpriced fly-by-night converters, converters that will watermark output, and malware disguised as legitimate converters. I don't want something that is "free to download." I want something that is free.
UNLESS the feature set and support is so astounding a purchase is fully justified—something else I've not yet seen.
Can someone help me find software to convert WEBM into something I can work with?
Please.
