Avi editing tool

Hey all,
I have some very large avi files. these were digital conversions from Hi 8 video tapes. I'd like to be able to go in and 'trim' the files, i.e. when they did the capture they just captured everything that was on the tape, so in some instances I have only 15 min of footage off of a 2 hr tape. The files sizes for the 2 hr capture are generally 24 gig so I have a vested interest in trying to shrink the size of the AVI file if there are portions of it that I don't need.

I have Edius Neo 3 and understand that I can do something that way, but that will not operate on the native AVI file, I'm looking for something that will let me change/edit the native AVI file.

Virtual Dub Popular Filters

Hi All,

After months of trials and errors with everything I have managed to capture the home video tapes using virtualdub/ezcap/vcr and a passthrough tbc. Generally, I am happy with the quality. But do you recommend some must use filters in virtual dub? And with what settings? I know there are limitless possibilities but do not want to spend too much time if the end product is not that noticeable. A little sharpening could be good as I turned it all the way down in video proc amp. And some color tuning but that could be done in premiere pro as well

Later, I will do title and timeline editing in Premiere Pro, and export to a digital file and keep it on PC. I know it is not preferable but if you are going to use it only on PC would you deinterlace the video?

A "budget" Nvidia card for H265 hardware encoding

I am considering buying a Nvidia GPU for a sole purpose of hardware hevc encoding. Can somebody please recommend a model, i.e. sold on Amazon, that would nicely work, yet not ruin ones budget? I am not a gamer so there will be no other use outside video encoding/editing area.

From the software side I am specifically looking for a card that would allow the encoding using:
a) TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 6
b) Ffmpeg/avconv under Linux

For example, I found this card on Amazon; ASUS GeForce GTX 970 for ca $230 (https://www.amazon.com/Asus-TURBO-GTX970-OC-4GD5-ASUS-Graphics-Cards/dp/B00WJOU7DA/)

Is it going to work with the said software and if yes, what sort of acceleration in encoding I may expect comparing to a purely cpu encoding based on FX-6100 at 3300?

Audio Breaks W/ Moyea PPT Converter

Hi!

I used the Moyea PPT Converter v. 2.6.0.68 running on Windows 7 Pro.

I converted a PPT to AVI using the default settings for medium quality audio and video,

While the conversion was taking place, the sound was ok. But, when I played the video, there were breaks in the sound.

Whay can I do?

From Vcr captured mpeg2 videos burning best programme.

I captured videos from vcr which are in mpeg2.I captured these videos with Hauppague internal pc card by using power theatre 8 programme.The duration of videos is 2hours 50 minutes.I want to burn these mpeg2 videos on single dvd disc which capacity is 4.7.What is the best burning programme (not loosing video quality) for this purpose.

VHS capture and edit advice

Hello all,
I've read various guides on capturing VHS video but wanted some advice on best practice methods to capture, edit and author/encode my video.

From what I understand, the best way to capture VHS is using VirtualDUB and Huffyuv for lossless interlaced capture with YUV 4:2:2 as the colour space (please correct me if I'm wrong)

After capturing I would like to edit my video to tweak the colours, trim, combine and crop the clips then upscale using RedGiant Instant 4k to 1080p in Adobe Premiere Pro while retaining the video in the lossless format

Finally, I would like to author a DVD with menus and export into x264 lossy as well as x264 lossless formats

The problem that I find most confusing is that apparently Adobe Premiere and most video editing software work with RGB and will convert the YUV2 video. Is this something I should be concerned about and will it reduce the quality of my video? Can I do the above in Premiere and retain the Huffyuv lossless quality?

When authoring the DVD and other formats, will the colours need to be converted again and how will that impact the overall quality?

stream/copy video from media player to a file(since I get CRC if copying)?

I have a DVD with CRC errors.

I have tried DVD shrink, it showed a CRC error and stopped. I tried Handbrake, it only copied 30min rather than 1 hour.

I tried "copy it anyway", it was taking ages and the time remaining kept increasing and once the time remaining went up to 9 hours and would've gone more, and the percentage was stuck at 11%, it showed a log of a bunch of CRC errors e.g.

518651904 :DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK)
518754304 :DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK)
518856704 :DATA ERROR (CYCLIC REDUNDANCY CHECK)

Maybe it'd have progressed eventually but it was much slower than it'd have been to just watch the DVD from start to finish.


I aborted it.

When I put the DVD in then a media player window pops up and starts playing it.

If I could just capture it from media player with sound then that would be good. I'd like a good way of doing that. I don't really want to lose resolution either.

Even if it took 1hr which is the length of the video itself and required me to play the whole thing, then that wouldn't be so bad, it'd still be quicker and more effective than the copies that i've tried that fail.

How can I do that? / What can I do?

DVR replacement - cable + epg?

I want to replace a failed DVR unit (Phillips DVDR 3576H), but am having trouble finding a good replacement.

The Phillips unit had mediocre user Interface and no EPG (Program guide), but had a hard disk and DVD drive build in, and would record all channels on my local cable (not encrypted).

I tried a Channel Master DVR+, which is very nice, but has only ATSC tuners, and is explicit that it only supports OTA signals (no QAM tuner). Since the Phillips also only advertised ATSC tuner, I thought that might indicate that my local cable is in fact of that encoding, but the CM would not recognize any channels. The Phillips dpecs. say:
Chanel Coverage (ATSC/NTSC)
Terestial ….
CATV
Does this indicate that the CATV is different than ATSC? Why can my Phillips see my local cable channels, but not the CMaster?

I am looking then at a Magnavox unit (MDR867H), which does have a built-in DVD drive, but it also says only OTA, although several answers on Amazon indicate that people are using it for recording over cable.

So, what I am looking for in order of priority is; cable channel recording, epg, DVD drive.

Any suggestions?
How can I tell if the Magnavox unit will record my channels, the discussions and forum answers are all pretty vague and non-detailed.

External screen/projector and harddrive at same thunderbolt

Hi!

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2011) whith one thunderbolt. Im using it/am about to use it a lot to video to stream as VJ in 1080 and are going to buy a new external hardrive. I wounder if its possible to connect both the beamer and a thunderbolt harddrive from the one and only thunderbolt jack on my computer. Daisy chaining them? Or am I better off buying a FW800 harddrive or even a USB harddrive? I only got USB 2.0 though.

Best pick would be to daisy chain a thunderbolt together with external monitor I guess. If its possible?

router & modem set up

OK, my DSL modem died (yes, I still have DSL for now) so I though it would be a good time to upgrade my 6 yr. old router as well. So I bought a brand new TP-LINK AC 1900 C9 router and called my cable provider to replace my modem. When the modem came, it turns out that it has a built-in router so now I have a brand new gigabit router with nothing to do. I'm looking for suggestions as to what and how to use the router as an extender for my wireless network for my TV in another room. The TV works pretty good but sometimes needs to buffer, would this help? Is it worth the trouble? if so, what is the best way to go about setting it up. Thanks in advance.

What's a good media player that can play the content at a faster speed without changing the pitch of the audio such as Youtube that lets you select 1.25x 1.5x and 2x speed?

I tried VLC but it skips frames and every other media player changes the pitch.

progressive scan 29.97 frames per second MP4 to DVD

I have a downloaded MP4 which is 480p 29.97 frames per second. The original source is most certainly not film, as it is recent news footage from a news station's youtube channel. I want to burn to DVD video format. Is 29.97 frames per second with progressive scan a valid DVD video format, or do I need to set the MPEG-2 encoder to encode as interlaced? If encoded to DVD as progressive, will it play OK on both interlaced only TVs and progressive scan TVs/players? (Some of the sources I've read say DVD video only supports progressive scan at 23.976 frames per second with pulldown.)

Smooth jerky clip in adobe premiere

I have a clip I recorded some years ago with some low light setting in my camera which caused the clip to (dont know the correct english word :-) ) but to pulse, to be jerky in playback.

Is there some plugin in premiere that can help me to smooth the playback?

Need help with AVI Synth script

I'm trying to encode a ripped DVD to an x264 MKV file using MeGUI. This particular title is giving me problems and I can't get my head round how to fix it. It's a film based source that has been badly converted to PAL.

I have tried QTGMC() and SRestore() and that gives me a 23.976 output but the motion is not smooth - it's difficult to describe but if you pause the encoded file you can see a double image on the fast moving areas.

I've attached a sample of the source - could someone help me out? I'm guessing I need to put some more parameters into the script for SRestore to do the job.

Help in backup original Bluray discs

Hi friends,
i use blue cloner diamond to copy my original bluray discs to BD-R blank discs but i found problem when i tried to play the copy in the LG bluray, the film working normal till around 50% or more ( end of the layer 1 ) then the image stopped.

I tried DVDFab but it stopped in creating the ISO file at 52% also and i don't know why.

Could anybody can help?
