Template? Or composed?

Hi all!

I was looking for a forum wherein people talk about video editing and this was one of the first search results google gave me. I'm kind of new here and wanted to learn more about video editing. If I'm violating anything please tell me. :)

What I'm curious about is how can I identify whether are videos made of compositions or are made with templates. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUmHDP1XPHU

Connecting PAL VCR to a NTSC DVD recorder and vice verse?

Hello,

I realized after posting this thread that the topic ended up not being exactly what I meant to ask, but did not figure out how to edit the topic title. Basically, I want to know if someone can confirm if both (or which) of the following instances that would work OK:

1. A PAL VCR, playing a PAL VHS tape, connected with standard RCA cables to a standalone NTSC DVD recorder - would the DVD recorder be able to receive the PAL signals and record them into a NTSC DVD?

2. A PAL VCR with the capabilities of playing back NTSC tapes, playing a NTSC tape, connected with standard RCA cables to a standalone PAL DVD recorder - would the DVD recorder be able to receive the converted NTSC signals and record them into a PAL DVD?
I know back in the VHS days, I tried connecting a PAL VCR with NTSC-playback support to another PAL VCR and attempted to record the converted NTSC signals into PAL signals on the other VCR, but it would not work. So I was wondering if it's different when using a digital recording device (in this case a PAL DVD recorder).

Potplayer: Can't flip or mirror video when DXVA hardware acceleration is on

Since I discovered using DXVA acceleration takes a load off of my CPU I've found that I can't do some simple video processing like flipping or mirroring the video when it's active.

Any idea why?

avidemux doubles file size when doing copy only??

$

I tried to cut about 25% out of an AVI file and noticed that while the original file was about 1.9GB, the cut file was over 3GB. It's an AVI, and I used the AVI Muxer in output format, and 'copy' for both the audio and video sections. I tried it again without cutting anything and the file was about double in size. Why would it do this- copy means it doesn't re-encode so it should be (roughly) the same right?

EDIT:
Used MediaInfo and found that the larger sized file has a much higher 'overall bitrate'- about 20 Mb/s more. I'm not sure how to tell what coded the original uses or how to make avidemux/virtualdub use the same, is that the issue? Both the original and copied files have a "First video stream" of about 35 Mb/s which is almost exactly the 'overall bitrate' of the copy.

Is there a way to add this data after encoding?

Thank you.

very annoying virtualdub glitch

Virtualdub has just suddenly lost the ability to correctly play files that it had no problem playing before. There is something wrong with the first few frames of the video - the audio will be at the right speed, but the first second or so of the video will be playing at a much faster framerate, fast enough that it has to start over and repeat itself in order for the audio and video to catch up with eachother. It only effects the first second or so of the video but that's still enough to ruin the project I'm working on, and it's doing it on the exact same .avi files that were working correctly before.

Rendered video does not display/behave as in preview

As part of my video, at the end I need to fade in a simple logo consisting of two colours, but the two colours do not fade in at the same time in the rendered video as they do in the preview for the video editing software.

I am using Sony Movie Studio 13, and have compressed/rendered the video using both the 'Sony AVC/MVC' render/compression option and the 'Mainconcept AVC/AAC' option, but the problem remains.
I think I have played around with all the settings in both the codec/rendering settings windows, and with the settings within the editing interface (the events) and options too.

What's going on? Is it something about how the H.264 codec works which means it is impossible to avoid?

Do I need access to extra options for controlling how colours are processed in the codec options? Maybe options that would only be provided in Vegas Pro? Something to do with colour bit depth, or chroma sub sampling or something like that?

Below are two images showing a stage of progression in the fade ins for the rendered video where the red part of the logo begins fading in first, and the preview in Movies Studio where both of the different coloured parts of the logo fade in at the same . . .

VirtualDub Won't Recognise Intensity Shuttle

There's a "Blackmagic WDM Capture (DirectShow)" listed in capture devices, but when I select it it shows no video or audio sources, there's no preview, and most of the menu options are greyed out. I can capture fine with the software that comes with the Shuttle.

Is it possible to make this work?

Convert 480i DVD to 480p h264?

$

Thought I'd ask advice about this idea.. See if it will be advantageous.
I have mpeg2 480i video captured from a laserdisc I'm thinking about converting to h264 480p.

I sometimes use Canopus ProCoder 3 or Rhozet Carbon Coder for Color Correction on old mpeg2 video. I like the results.
Since I'm recoding anyway, I'm thinking about exporting 480p H264 instead of 480i mpg2. Good or bad idea??
The end result will be mkv or avchd disc not an authored DVD... File size & bit rate is not a constraint.

Furthermore, I might be able to capture a H264 version of the LD if that would give better results.
Thanks..

To DVDFab or not to DVDFab

I purchased a lifetime subscription of DVDFab products some time ago. Back when I was younger and more naive.
I don't want to start a flame war, just looking for some impartial opinions and direction.

There seems to be a lot of negativity going around about DVDFab's encode quality.

Indeed, they waste 4% of every blu-ray. Now I don't know if that's because they can't figure out what bit rate would give optimal disk usage, or they have the VSO mentality of "filling disks is a bad thing". There are a few other niggling things with DVDFab and the UI (IMHO), is terrible.

My typical use scenario is -
  • Backup 3D Blu-rays to ISO - Full Disk.
  • If I'm going to store on my server I will do blu-ray RIP with audio and video copy to try to maintain original quality.
  • When I run short of space on the server I often burn back the MKV file to BD25.
  • Sometimes after purchasing my original disk I will immediately burn to BD25
  • All originals are then stored offsite for safe keeping. To keep originals in mint condition they are never played.

So given that sort of usage scenario, if DVDFab is producing poor quality encodes, what software would give me the best quality?

**Yes, I know disk is cheap. I've already got 9 x 6TB drives. Mobo can't handle more, and I can''t justify the cost of upgrading drives to 8TB.

No length in video file or no streaming

Hello everybody. I have a rather strange problem going on that I'm hoping someone here can help me solve. I have several MKV files that would not stream to my phone or my PS4, they also would not play correctly in media player classic (audio but no video) but they would play correctly in VLC.

Using a single file as a test I converted from MKV to MP4 and I also changed the resolution and the video and audio bitrate to save a little space. The conversion did what I wanted, hard drive space was reduced and the test file will now stream properly and play in media player classic. I realize VLC is considered the gold standard by many I just prefer to use MPC.

However, even though the test file will now stream to my phone etc. without any trouble there is no runtime/length info (video plays but total file duration is all zeros), so I am unable to seek. Is there anyway I can add that info into the file or do I need to do something else to fix it?

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Looking for specific software for menu creation and file joining

Hello ,
long i search for software which will allow me create menu for video files like mkv and mp4. What i want is that something similar to blu ray or dvd menu but within file system (no reencoding only point to video file) thing that i only type name of tv show for example , choose some nice background and point to folder where episodes are and software add them to menu automaticcaly and maybe create some short preview. And maybe software will put all videofiles to one nice container.

I find out Tmngpce PMGX creator which will be nice but is outdated and more then half of my videofiles are unsuportted.

Thank you for suggestions.

I use OBS-Studio to record set-topbox via Avermedia CV 710 U3.With CRF settings in x264 option as 8 , As per my hardware limitations which is the better option to use the for deinterlacing: Input 1080i 50 HZ

(1) Yadif 2x and output selected at 25 FPS at cpu preset very fast
(2) Yadif 2x and output selected at 50 FPS with cpu preset superfast
(2) Yadif x and output selected at 25 with cpu preset very fast

Plz note that yadif 2x is frame doubler BUT i have to choose video output as 25 FPS to avoid frame drops at cpu preset very fast. Please advise me.
